“Don't be fooled by the misleading adverts”

Charlotte House Hotel

24 Mar 2008

Don't be fooled by the web site or some of the publicity that has heralded this a five star hotel. The truth is this hotel is yet to get a star rating from the AA. There may even be questions about whether the publicity is actually a breach of trading descriptions. Although the hotel itself may have decided it is five star, the reality of the hotel experience there is very different. Nice rooms, amateur staff, skips viewable from the window, shoddily dressed servers - nothing about this appears to be the spirit of five star As stated elsewhere, a nice guest house, but overpriced and definitely not five star

“Great Location”

Charlotte House Hotel

9 Mar 2008

Overall above average, but with some limitations:
Opened Autumn 2007, Charlotte House is a beautifully refurbished hospital in the Lawns complex in the hilltop in Lincoln, opposite the West Gate entrance to the Castle/Cathedral. Having booked Room 7 - a twin suite at £99 (no breakfast) on the first floor, we immedately swapped to a standard double (same price) because the single beds have iron bedsteads with resrticted length. ( the second floor Room 12 double has an unrestricted divan bed - and a pleasant outlook).
The rooms have a modern TV (no DVD) and a Philips CD player - so remember to take some CD's. Heating is powerful and easily controlled. Oddly for a UK five star rating, there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room - in compensation, tea and coffee are provided free by room service anytime on demand, but we found this an invasion of our privacy. Next time we will take our travel kettle.
Although the hotel has no restaurant, there are plenty nearby to suit all tastes and budgets.
Lincoln town is one of the best we have seen, lively, clean, extensively pedestrianised and with a shuttlebus to get around if the hill is too steep. There is a new museum which is child-friendly and worth a visit. If you are going by car, then leave it at the hotel because carparks are limited and expensive.

This Hotel is overated and far to expensive, Facilities feel very bed and breafast style.
Staff are all very young and inexpierenced
The hotel is set in a discontinued Hospital and felt very much like it.
The rooms were very nice and new but lacked basic facilities and the quality of the quilts and pillows were very ordinary
The breafast room was very cramped and on the day we left the chef had not turned up, we waited 35 mins just for a pot of tea, some people left before getting served, the food was a eventually cooked by the receptionist!
Hotel bar was good and managed by a very nice bar man
The food in the Hotels adjacent restruant was also good
Location was excellant for all the uphill Lincoln gift shops and tea rooms.
When leaving we were charged extra for our breakfasts which we thought were included when we first booking

We loved this place. It was pure bliss. it was in a great location so didnt need the car to get to places as was only a short walk away to the resurants etc and with the castle was just across the road which was great to see.
The only problem we had weas when we decided to have breckfast at the hotel the morning we were leaving, we told we were booked in for 9am but when we got down stairs it was over booked (as really smal) so we had to come back in half hour whem we did get sat down the orders we coming out wrong or they had run out of things.
The receptionist was very helpfull and she seemed to get about everywhere.
overall a great experiance and would no doubt go back.
