My wife and I stayed at Charlotte House for two nights in February 2008. We enjoyed our stay and the location of this jotel is superb for access to old Lincoln. However, we do have a number of comments on the hotel which is certainly not 5* rated. All the publicity makes a fuss about it being 5* and the brochure has an AA logo at the bottom. However, the AA tell us that this accommodation is not AA 5* listed but they have applied for inspection. The publicity is very misleading. We were surprised by several unexpected omissions.
• The bedroom had no paper tissues, no facecloths, no information on Lincoln, no pen or simple stationery.
• There were no comfortable or easy chairs in the bedroom and nowhere to place a suitcase.
When we arrived at about 3.15 pm we were told that our room was not quite ready. That was not a problem and the receptionist arranged for us to have a coffee but unfortunately your lounge was already occupied by a commercial group who were listening to a lecture. As a result we had to wait in the bar but the commercial group then complained that we were a distraction and so we were moved elsewhere to one of your breakfast tables. Guest should have access to the lounge and bar. At the very least the hotel should provide comfortable seating in the bar area and have a door placed between this area and the lounge.
We were also rather surprised at the policy of charging a fixed price for breakfast. This is reasonable for a full breakfast but very unreasonable for the very simple breakfast of coffee, toast and cereal. There was no fresh fruit, choice of bakery items or yoghurt.
Unfortunately this hotel has not even had the courtesy to acknowledge our letter making the above points. We have taken up the matter of 5* rating with the AA.
