I initially intended to stay at the sister bailhouse hotel but was disappointed to find it fully booked. instead i enjoyed a midweek stay at Charlotte house. The nearby lawn area enjoyed some rare sunshine on my trip and the bar with patio enabled me to while away the evenings while staff brought drinks to my table.

I enjoyed the time immensely, the hotel is exceptional and room 12 (a double) tastefully furnished and decorated, the staff are eager to please and the whole experience felt more like a holiday than a business trip. on the third night my wife came and we enjoyed a romantic stroll past the nearby cathedral, the castle and the quaint streets of Lincoln. i would recommend this hotel to all my friends.

Charlotte House advertise themselves as a 5 star hotel but we could not believe that this was in any way a 5 star hotel and so telephoned the AA who confirmed that it was not a 5 star hotel but classified by them as 5 star guest accommodation i.e. a bed and breakfast place.

The room we were given was excellent as a bedroom but the rest of the premises left a lot to be desired being a converted industrial building. It felt like being in an old factory albeit with nice furnishings.

The staff were untrained, the administration was abominable and it took us 45 minutes to check out in the morning because the person in front of us had a number of complaints and the office computer was not working properly.

The breakfast was adequate although by no means what you would expect from a 5 star establishment and when we came to check out they wanted to charge us an extra £1.80 because we had herb tea for breakfast and free tea was only available as part of room service. After some argumenet when we pointed out that the menu for breakfast included tea the charge was waived.

No restaurant is available in Charlotte House and their web site does not mention that their remote restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

There is no signage to indicate where the hotel is situated and even with our sat nav which took us to the car park, we could still not find the hotel and had to telephone for someone to come out and guide us in.

I find it amazing that this hotel can honestly be classed as 5*.
Yes, it is beautiful and the location certainly is perfect but the service and quality is far from being a 5* standard.
1. the staff, who I'm sure are all lovely people and try hard, are not trained to a 5 star standard and appeared very inexperienced.
2. the facilities in the bedroom were almost unfinished, what hotel doesn't have drink making facilities in the rooms!
3. a set extra charge for breakfast with very limited choice, no fresh fruits and limited cereals
3. a manager who was in and out of the hotel driving around in a golf buggy following women and not at all interested in the problems in the hotel. The staff had very little good to say about him!!
4. no stationary or information in the room so yet another trip to reception.

overall a very disappointing stay as the potential is there and with real managment could be fantastic!!

A Perfect Location from which to explore lincoln. Within touching distance of the cathedral and bailgate. Myself and my partner found the hotel excellent, the staff attentive and the whole experience to be relaxing. Lincoln itself is a beautiful city to visit.
