I was very apprehensive about spending the money on this tour as I only have an iPhone and I figured I would not be able to get the cool shots that I was admiring on the site. I was also concerned that I would be boxed out of benefitting from the time spent on camera stuff that didn't apply to me. The guide, Robert, did an excellent job of assessing what I wanted out of the experience and making sure that my time was well spent. The other person on the tour was at a much higher level than I was, but Robert did a very nice job balancing his time between us and making his instructions interesting and useful to both of us. He was very complimentary, and did as nice a job building up my confidence as he did teaching me the technical aspects and tips.
I found this tour to be a very nice introduction to photography and to getting the kind of shots that will be enjoyable to share and to remember my adventures. Both my guide and the person who organized the tour we attentive and responsive.
A few cons: The website seemed to jam up every time I tried to book a tour. I would have booked the tour much earlier in my trip but gave up on the website at one point. They were advertising a discount which did not display and I eventually gave up and paid more because I was concerned about backtracking again through the website. They do not offer refunds so be certain that you want and are able to attend before booking. If you are only in London for a short period of time you may not be able to take advantage of alternate or substituted tours if something doesn't work. They reinforced multiple times that I needed to be at the meeting point ten minutes prior to the tour starting and that it was my responsibility to check for travel delays, but we still ended up waiting for almost 15-20 minutes past the start of the tour for late members who didn't show. This didn't bother me so much until the end of the tour when I rather wanted those precious few minutes back with my excellent guide! I did not mention any of these concerns to the company or give them the opportunity to remedy anything - so take that into account. They strike me as the sort who would be very accommodating should you bring and issue to their attention.
Corinna, who I booked through, went above and beyond to make sure that I would get something out of the tour with my iPhone. She connected with a colleague who wrote up a nice little instructional and recommended some apps.
I would not hesitate to go on this tour, even if you don't have a fancy schmancy camera. I learned a lot and was really pleased with the "take away" of the time I spent. I plan to spend the next year fussing, and hope to join Hairy Goat again in the future to learn more now that I have the bug!
