We visit London often and always try a new hotel (always in a central London location). For anyone who wants a London hotel to feature tea cozies and needlepointed pillows with dog portraits, this is NOT your hotel. It has the global hip, disco-ball feel more of the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. But it is very London in its own way, since it's based just south of trendy Soho -- the U.K.'s media center -- and just north of Leicester Square -- the movie premier venue.
What we liked best was the room. Yes, its dimensions are small (nearly every London hotel we've stayed in has had small rooms). But we've lived on a boat, and we find the room design highly functional. There's a cubbyhole or drawer or hanging space for everything in your suitcase and ample counter space for vanity and workspace. The Spice Market breakfast is A+, and the location -- like being in the center of Times Square in NYC -- is convenient to many other interesting, varied areas: Soho, Trafalgar, Mayfair, Picadilly, Oxford Street, Chinatown. If we can get a good rate on a room, we'll be back.
We were on the 7th floor and despite footballer pandemonium in the streets below on Saturday night...
