After an exhaustive search, we chose the Aster House. Many very positive points:

- lovely townhouse on a quiet street
- 3 minute walk to South Kensington Underground stop (you can take one train directly from Heathrow to this stop)
- lovely Continental breakfast. It wasn't a big American breakfast, but it wasn't a cholesterol-clogging English breakfast. It was basically a Continental breakfast (plus scrambled eggs), but with fresh fruit, interesting breads, beautifully displayed
- 15 minute walk to Harrods and V&A museum (plus other museums)
- gracious staff
- excellent value (London is expensive, but Aster House is a great deal)
- a small grocery store around the corner that is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The only negatives:
- the downside of a B&B is not having a front desk to ask questions to. You could always call someone on the phone and they were responsive, but not the same as a 24 hour desk.
- no elevator (no problem for me, but could be a problem for those with climbing issues)

Rooms were nothing special, but were clean and had whatever you would need. (I don't think there was a minibar, but with the grocery store around the corner, you could pick up water, etc easily.)

If I were going back to London, I would not hesitate to stay at Aster House again.

“Lovely Stay”

We stayed at Aster House after reading many positive reviews on this site and elsewhere. It was a charming townhouse in a nice section. The location was good, being near public transportation, shopping, sights, and eateries. We found several good restaurants nearby. The Garden Room had a nice view of the resident ducks and we enjoyed watching them. The room was well appointed and had a modern, nicely renovated bathroom. It was of reasonable size in relation to European hotel rooms. The conservatory where breakfast is served was our favorite aspect of Aster House. The breakfast was of good quality and changed some from day to day. The service at breakfast was good and there was a comfortable place to read the newspapers provided. The proprietors were quite helpful and friendly. They made sure we had a taxi exactly when requested and were generally very accomodating. We wished they had visited among the guests some at breakfast. Hotels in London are outrageously expensive, but we felt that this was a good value. We hope to stay at Aster House again.

This was an ideal place to stay--excellent location (on a quiet residental block) near museums, shopping, parks and a 2 minute walk from the South Kensington tube. The B&B was immaculate, extremely comfortable and the breakfast was very nice. There is also a wonderful garden in the back that would be lovely in the spring and summer. Staff was friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back to London and stay there again-- Highly recommended.

“Nice Hosts and Good Location”

Aster House

My wife and I stayed at the Aster House for a week in December and had a lovely time. The best things about the hotel are the location and the hosts. The hotel is located in upscale South Kensington, close to many nice restaurants and bars. The area has a great vibe. The hotel is a three-minute walk to a very central tube station (South Kensington). Most lines pass through this station. From this station you are a quick less-than-ten-minute tube ride from all of London's attractions and theatres. Mr. and Mrs. Tan were very welcoming and helpful. The room was very clean and relatively spacious for London standards. My only complaint was the size of the shower. I'm an average sized man and barely fit inside. Nonetheless, the bathroom was spotless. The price is very reasonable for this neigborhood. Without hesitation I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting London.

My husband, teenage daughter and I stayed at Aster House for 4 days, March 7 - 11,2007. We had a wonderful stay. Ms. Tan is a gracious, attentive and friendly hostess. She helped us with navigating the 'tube' system, reservations for tours and whatever questions we had. She was very flexible about breakfast hours when we had to depart early for a tour and addressed any concern we had immediately. The breakfast of sweets, cereal, eggs, sausage, beans and fruit/yogurt was wonderful. Their breakfast room is absolutely lovely - sunny and bright - and is a great way to start your day. The girls serving breakfast (coffees, etc.) were friendly and attentive. We stayed in the Poster Suite which was very comfortable for three people with a large bathroom and very quiet (We turned off the air cond/heater as we didn't need it this time of year). If it had been upstairs, the room would have been perfect - I wished I'd seen the rooms upstairs. They were probably very sunny. I like sunny rooms and since this room is below ground level, it was a bit dark but did get some morning sun. I would highly recommend this B&B if you are in London. The location is absolutely IDEAL. Three short blocks from the Tube (Picadilly line or Central/District lines) and you can get anywhere from those two lines- mostly without transfer. Believe me - you do not want to transfer with luggage. Yes - the tube is convenient but there are a lot of stairs and carrying your bags from one line to the other is difficult if you are alone or have a lot of luggage. We took the train from Birmingham to London and getting on and off the train with luggage was awful. The aisles are narrow and the stops are short so you really have to make haste to get off.
Getting back to Heathrow from Aster House was a breeze. We had a wonderful time in London and thank Ms Tan for all her help!
