Pros: The hotel is located on a wonderful street in an even more fantastic neighborhood. Your heart's desire! The hotel is gorgeous and well kept if not immaculate. The staff is attentive - though not anticipating your needs, so ask for what you need or want. They seem very happy to help! The resto is good. Room service was served hot. And again, the place is simply breathtakingly beautiful.

Cons: The rooms in this hotel are vastly diverse and have a completely different ambiance depending on if they sit on Monmouth St or the back side of the hotel. Some are more square shaped and some rectangular, etc... I had previously stayed in a bright, spacious, wide room with my family (it must have been on Monmouth St side) which easily accommodated two adults and two small children. This time was a special occasion for my son and I. I reserved a higher category room than my previous stay and was expecting the same or better. Unfortunately we were put in an odd bowling lane shaped room in the back of the hotel. (It was very handsome in grey flannel pinstripes, but dreadfully dark because of its location) When I asked for another room the hotel could not (would not?) accommodate my request for a room with more light - at first I was only offered a ground floor room on the back side of the hotel with windows literally on the sidewalk - and again very dark even on a sunshiny, blue sky day! Finally, they offered a first floor room on the back side which was not enough of an improvement to warrant moving after having unpacked and stayed the night. The bottom line is to ask for what you want (or expect) up front. Make NO assumptions! Because of my expectations, the room I had was not worth the money I paid and paying the bill was a bit like choking down raw liver! Lesson learned.

Just spent four nights at Covent Garden Hotel and had a stellar experience. This property has all of the charm you would want from an older property as well as all of the comforts of a modern one due to the fact that it is kept in excellent condition. The hotel is very cozy and charming in great Seven Dials location...near Covent Garden and West End. Be sure to check out Monmouth Coffee across the street for some of the best coffee you will EVER have! On site restaurant is quite good. Beds, pillows and linens are very nice. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. There's free WiFi. The sitting room / library on second floor is a great place for a drink after a great day of enjoying London.

Double paned windows meant that despite its location it was super quiet.

Room tip: We had room 405 which had a view of London Eye

I came to the Firmdale Covent Garden Hotel for afternoon tea because it is one only a few hotels in central London which start serving afternoon tea before lunchtime (I know, I know). Their website says that you can enjoy afternoon tea either in the brasserie or in the drawing room. The brasserie is the standard London restaurant décor, but the drawing room is actually reserved for hotel guests only. (Because I was on my own, my request to sit in the drawing room was actually granted). The décor in the drawing room was beautiful, and the atmosphere was perfectly hushed. The afternoon teas have a £2.something p supplement if you want a specialty tea as opposed to the standard English Breakfast or Earl Grey. It is definitely worth it though.
The afternoon tea its self was lovely. The sandwiches were very nice, if few in number (4 types only, but all well thought through and presented in different manners), and I was brought another four rapidly upon requesting them. The scones were nice although, because they are brought with the sandwiches, they were no longer warm by the time I got to them. The cakes were all very pleasant, and although not spectacular, were well presented and tasted good. This is a low maintenance afternoon tea (had I have been sat in the brasserie where they had planned, I would have had attentive waiter service, but because I was upstairs in the drawing room on my own, I only saw waiters occasionally). When serving, the waiters were very polite and willing to chat. All in all, a very nice afternoon tea. This is probably the 5th best afternoon tea that I have had in London (and I have had a lot of afternoon teas). The only ones that I think have beaten it so far, are all in 5 star hotels, and are much more expensive, so the Covent Garden hotel is batting above it's weight.
Ambiance 5/5 (better than to be expected from a good three star hotel)
Food 3/5 (as expected from a good three star hotel)
Service 3/5. (as expected from a good three star hotel)
(These are good scores for me as I am a harsh marker, and bear in mind that this is only a 3 star hotel, so the ambiance (in the drawing room) is significantly better than expected.
Well done and thank you.

My friend stayed in this hotel and recommended this hotel to me. She did a right thing. This hotel is lovely hotel, good service, room cozy. Check in fast and easy, staff very nice. There are many restaurants and shops around round. Easy to find everything nearby. We stayed for 4 nights. We will be back in Feb 2015.

Although at some point I would love to explore a different part of the city, the Covent Garden Hotel is in an ideal location for pretty much every purpose, and is only a 5-minute walk to the Royal Opera House and also to Trafalgar Square (and the National Gallery). The rooms are large and a perfect combination of hip and timeless elegance. Each is different and charming in its own way. Bathrooms are vast, full of marble and perfectly-appointed.

The Brasserie Max Restaurant is excellent, with superb breakfasts and food all day (inlcuding a lovely High Tea). The adjoining bar is chic and always busy (but not too busy).

The Drawing Room/Library on the 1st room is one of may favourite spots in the city, and is where I hold a reception for my groups each time I'm in London.

The staff, to a person, are professional, friendly, approachable and genuinely interested in helping to make your stay more than just enjoyable.

This is one of the finest hotels I use anywhere in the world, and it really does feel like my home in London.

Room tip: Room 1 is in the "basement" but is huge and beautiful, and is like a little hidden oasis in the hotel. Easily the best value in the Luxury room category.
