I have recently returned from a one night stay using HHonors points.
The Hotel itself is in a fantastic location, there can be no denying this point. However, we had fundamental issues with the hotel and the confidentiality of the information they retain on their guests.
On check in we were informed the door key machine was not working and, although we could go to the room we would have to wait for someone to come along and let us in! We had to wait a good ten minutes in the corridor for this to happen. I had paid an additional £20 at reception for a room upgrade. As I was travelling with my teenage son, I was informed the room had a Sofa bed and better views. There was not a Sofa bed and from the 2nd floor the view was less than inspiring. It was then my son noticed the bendy bedside light was hanging from its socket.
We then decided to quit the upgrade idea and return to Plan A the original twin I had booked. This was all sorted at reception but, frankly, the room was sub-standard. The 2 twin beds were small and the matress does not cover the side of the bed leaving the sharp corners of the bed exposed. I am sporting a cut on my leg this morning with a matching bruise. The room was dark and the bed dark brown!
The room on the 1st floor looked out onto a building site and people working in offices so you had to keep the curtains closed at all times. The waste from the building site was picked up by the world's noisiest garbage truck at about 07.30 so that was the alarm call to get up. I had specifically asked for a high-floor room but was told non were available. I later found this to be not so in a conversation with another member of staff.
On check out I asked for the bill to sent to me via e-mail, which it duly was, along with the bill for 2 other customers!!! I am now waiting to check my credit card statement to ensure I have not been charged for their rooms as well. Bearing in mind these invoices contain personal details this should not happen for security reasons. I am particularly unhappy on this point. Would you want your personal details emailed to a fellow guest who you do not know from Adam??
On the positive side, The Vista Bar, although extremely expensive, is worth it for the views on a nice day and the staff were very friendly and efficient.
The concierge personnel we met were great.
Given all of the above I certainly would not return and will not be reccommending The Trafalgar Hotel to friends and colleagues etc.
