I had the pleasure of staying at Marlyn Lodge while in London and I found it to be fantastic. The two of us stayed in a studio room which we found to be a great size by anyone's standards, enough room for a very comfortable queen size bed, small couch, TV (with a really good selection of channels) and table with 4 chairs whilst leaving enough room to move about comfortably without tripping over anything or feeling confined.
We had a room facing Mansell street and although it was busy, with the windows closed the road noise was not a problem at all, although we had the window open most of the time as it was a great place to sit and 'people watch' I found it interesting observing Londoners going about their daily routine.
The kitchen was well equipped with all the utensils, pots and pans etc. everything that we needed was there including a full size fridge and washing machine that was really easy to use. The bathroom was also well set out and functional, the shower had good pressure and the water was always hot no matter what time of the day it was, the towels that were provided were thick and fluffy.
The number one bonus of Marlyn Lodge is its proximity to all London has to offer, it was a 5 minute walk to the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and the Thames with the tube stations Tower Hill and Aldgate also only a few minutes walk away, although this was our first trip to London we found the tube to be extremely easy, efficient and cost effective to use, just buy a daily ticket and off you go to explore this wonderful city. (we had actually booked a hop on hop off bus tour for a few days but hardly used it as the tube was just so good)
The number two bonus of Marlyn Lodge was the small but well stocked supermarket that was literally a half minute walk away on Mansell Street, here we bought absolutely everything we needed for our 4 days in London and I found the prices were very reasonable, I especially loved their selection of pre made sandwiches at bargain basement prices. They opened early, at 6 or 7am and closed late, about 11pm which was great when I felt like a couple of glasses of wine one night, for a small mart they had a great selection of alcohol, including a few wines from Australia which made me feel at home :) also there is an ATM right next to the mart which I used a couple of times.
I booked Marlyn lodge directly through their website (www.london-apartment-rental.com or just Google 'Marlyn Lodge' and it should come up) and found everything a breeze, Christine was a joy to deal with and the payment easy and secure.
On a final note we found the area to be extremely safe and although it was just my 12yo daughter a I travelling alone we never felt in any way unsafe.
Overall Marlyn Lodge is really reasonably priced and the location just cant be beat, I have recommended this accommodation to all my friends and family and cant wait to return to explore the wonderful, friendly city of London.
rooms on a higher floor and facing Mansell Street are great if you want to watch real life London
