The Apex Temple Court Hotel in Fleet Street was offered on Travelzoo at a very good rate and is a newly built hotel. As it was my husbands birthday, we decided to have a London break away and booked.
The hotel is tucked away behind office buildings in Bouverie Street and is difficult to find, however once found we entered a court area were we left the car to unload. We were greated by friendly staff and upgraded to a Superior room! The only downside was that the nearest car park was about a mile away as the one next door is closed on weekends. The cost is £35 for 24hours.
The Hotel however, being off the main street is very quiet and we had a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. The view is not very good as it looks into office blocks and we had to keep curtains closed for privacy - that said as we were only in the room in the evening this did not bother us. The west End and Covent Garden are only a 15 minute walk away but if you go by cab please tell them that the hotel entrance is in Bouverie St as many cabbies do not know where this new hotel is located.
The room itself was wonderful -obviously new, airy and really well appointed with very plush fixtures, well thought out furniture including fridge, safe and the usual Tea making facilities. It also had a lovely on -suite with a bath and shower, fluffy towels, bathrobes, slippers toiletries and even its own plastic duck for the bath!!! Very roomy - nice to have space to put your toilet bags!!
We ate in the restaurant in the evening after seeing an afternoon show. There was a reasonable choice of food which was served well. However my husband requested Olives (twice) and these only arrived during the main course! We were satisfied although we thought that the 12.5% optional service charge was a little high and gave a more reasonable gratuity.
Breakfast was not included in our offer and not having many good options close to the hotel decided to stay there. The full English was £19.50 and other items such as beverages or rounds of toast were individually priced, making an expensive breakfast if you wanted juice and a cup of tea!
The Hotel staff were very happy to look after your baggage for you after vacating your room and as the weather was sunny we decided to spend the rest of our time left on a tour bus. The Big Bus Tour is a great way to see London. For around £30 you can hop on, hop off all day. The blue tour in my opinion is better than the red offering a recorded comentary, free river cruise, free walking tour plus vouchers off attractions, restaurants and shopping.
We stopped at St Pauls Cathedral for a while, which was beautiful and decided to lunch at Cote Brasserie nearby (26 Ludgate Hill) before returning home. Here we had a perfect lunch outside whilst people watching!
I cannot say what the hotel's rates are normally because of our deal with Travelzoo but it was fantastic value for a London Hotel of this calibure.
It was a wonderful weekend in a stunning new hotel where we soaked up London sights as well as the sunshine after weeks of constant rain. Most welcome!
We stayed in room 121 which was very roomy and quiet.
