I arrived at the Mailmaison early after a 30 hour trip from Sydney. I had paid for the previous night so I could be assured my room as I arrived. After a grumpy check-in I found myself in a dark , ground floor room that was fitted out for a wheelchair guest. Not ideal. After some pressure, I was checked into a better room after a couple of hours, so no big deal, but not what you want when you have travelled for so long and thought you had covered the issue.
My summary of the Malmaison would be that it provided a reasonably located room of reasonable quality, but little else. The room itself was a bit "tired", but OK. Nothing too interesting or memorable about it, apart from a nice (ish) outlook over the square. The bed was very hard, but given I was exhausted each night, I slept well. I didn't use room service or the restaurant, so can't comment. Aside from my issues at check-in, I didn't speak to another staff member until I left after a three night stay, so can't comment too much about service.
The hotel is quite well located, near a couple of nice cafes and restaurants, plus a tube station all within 3 minutes.
Not great...but not too bad either. Not good enough to mean I will bother to go there again.
