We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions during the past few years, primarily due to its location on the Central Line and reasonable weekend room charges. However, after our most recent stay we would be reluctant to return.
We arrived too early to check in so left our bags with reception. We were in the city for a concert so returned to check in at around midnight. This was a slow process, firstly the receptionist could not seem to find the check in slip he needed, then there was a debate over whether or not the charge for the non-refundable rate room had already been taken or not. Finally we had to direct him ourselves to where the hotel stores its guest's suitcases to retrieve our luggage.
Rooms have always been basic and clean but in this case there was a large stain next to the mirror on one wall and the socket next to the only mirror in the room was not working, making it difficult to get ready in the morning.
Breakfast was included in our room rate but yet again we had to debate this before sitting down the next morning. When we did sit down to breakfast, which is usually well stocked, it was almost empty and very messy. Although there were only a couple of other guests there at the time we had to take a table at the opposite end of the room to the buffet, as every other table was dirty and needed clearing.
Although the female receptionist at check out was much more efficient and polite, the service at this hotel has definitely deteriorated.
