Its like stepping back in time! The outside of the building is a lovely old red brick building, looks great. You walk inside to a nasty old smell, with tatty carpets and tacky design. They made you pay before you saw your room, which we should have realised something was wrong at that!!!
You are then brought through this building....outside.....through a small building site with toilets and wheelbarrows lining up against the wall. Then you enter a totally different building to the one you thought you were staying in with an even worse smell. Tiny windy and dark corridors. We had to take turns in getting into our room as we couldn't fit in the hall and open the door at the same time. The room was poor but could have been worse considering! They had squashed three beds into a room that was clearly only for 2. All 3 beds joined together to make one big bed, instead of 3 separate beds. A wardrobe sat in front of the fireplace. Tv didn't work. Tatty carpet. Although old and tacky it was quite clean in the bedroom and bathroom.
Heating was on full blast when we came in that night. Couldn't breathe. In fairness they sent somebody down eventually after 3 phone calls as we couldn't turn it off or down and he managed to turn it off, not before burning himself!!!
Our bathroom lights went the next day and we said they could go in and change the bulb whenever they wanted.
Key wouldnt work the second night and had to trek back through the building site and back into the reception to be told you have to activate them at reception every day. Eventually got in to our room to find the cover of the bathroom light in our sink and no bulb had been changed. No one had said anything even though we were at reception twice due to the key situation!
We wrote a complaint and noticed another complaint form had been handed in also. They told us they would be in touch by email!!! We didn't have a leg to stand on as we had paid previously. It wasn't expensive at £120 a night for the room but that wasn't the point. It was false advertising as we stayed in a different building as to what you enter. A total fire trap, with so many safetly concerns. The whole stay was totally unprofessional, much much worse than any hostel I've ever stayed in.
