We (a group of 4) had reservations for a Saturday night at 8.45pm but my flight into London was delayed so the rest of the group called to push back our reservations which the restaurant were more than happy to do until 9.30pm.

We arrived a little after 9.30pm and were asked to wait at the bar, which was fine as I really wanted to try their cocktails, which I'd heard good things about. So we all tried a different cocktail at the bar and they were all excellent.

We were taken up to our table about 9.50pm and seated in the mezzanine level. The restaurant was still really busy at this time of night and it was a lovely atmosphere, even though most people were finishing their meals as we were just starting.

Service was quick and efficient, we had water and our bottles of (white and red) wine brought to the table quickly and as soon as we were ready to order our server was there to take our order. Our group of 4 ordered starters of red onion and goats cheese tart, the beef and yorkshire pudding (which was a perfect size, despite our initial reservations) and 2 scallops. All of them were excellent and perfectly cooked.

For main courses, 2 of us had the steak and 2 had the duck. The duck was perfectly cooked and delicious and my steak was excellent but my friend who also had the steak got a particularly fatty piece of meat. He made the best of it, cutting around the fat, but it did ruin it a bit for him.

We didn't so dessert as by this time it was quite late but the menu did look nice. So we got the bill and one of my friends had a voucher for 50% off so after using that, the bill came to £130 for the 4 of us (excluding the cocktails as hey'd been paid for at the bar). As it was for 2 courses each and 2 bottles of wine, I probably would have felt it was a little overpriced if we'd paid full price but the food was good and the service was excellent so with the discount it was excellent value.

We had tickets to a concert at St. Martin in the Fields and this restaurant was literally 2 minutes walk away. It also has a half-price pre-theatre menu option which was the main reason we booked. It was not busy at 6pm and the staff were quick and attentive (unlike some other reviewers experience it seems). The menu is based on Scottish fare and was great for meat and seafood lovers. The food was beautifully cooked and well presented and since it was half price we were very well pleased! The wine is normal price, so be warned! We were being joined by a friend half way through out meal and the waiter was very helpful in timing their food with their arrival. All told, a very positive experience and we would definitely use them again. Trafalgar square is very handy for theatreland so the location is in it's favour too.

Been to one of the Galleries or tourist sights in and around Trafalgar Square and Whitehall and want somewhere nice and quiet to stop for lunch or an early evening meal, then Albannach is a real option.
While it is a little more expensive than some of the more "touristy" eateries in nearby Covent Garden this restaurant always has discount offers on Toptable and Taste of Britain which makes it affordable. It is rarely full and it has a pleasant ambience and style about it. Be careful when ordering so as to get value for money but if you want a British experience - well Scottish really - then this is a pleasant venue to relax and while away a cuple of hours over the meal

First time at the Albannach and visited on Saturday evening at 6pm - restaurant was 3/4s full. Seated upstairs. Very attentive and quick service. Good choice on the menu - highly recommend the pulled duck salad and the Beef Wellington (which was a very generous portion). Received a 50% discount off this food however I would have had no hesitation paying the full price. Looking forward to going back again.
