We recently had our second lunch at The Ledbury and it was equally as good if not better than the first 12 months ago. We ordered from the a la carte menu, but there is set price lunch menu which incredibly well-priced at 30 pounds for 2 courses and 35 pounds for 3 courses.
The room is not big, but it is light and airy and there is enough room between tables (with comfy chairs) not to feel cramped. The food here is exquisite both in flavour and visual presentation. Prior to ordering we were asked if we had any food allergies or intolerances the chef should know about (we didn't). After a delicious little amuse bouche, I had quail for entree and muntjac for main course. I am no great lover of venison but just thinking about this little piece of "Bambi" now makes my mouth water! My partner had scallops that were brought to the table whole prior to being sliced for the final dish. Neither of us had ever seen such huge scallops, but despite their size, they were tender, sweet and delicious.
I counted at least 9 floor staff including sommeliers for around 14 tables. Their service was prompt, friendly, knowledgable and professional. My partner had lobster for main course. Just prior to it being served, a waited came and changed our cutlery and explained that the chef was not happy with the dish and it was being cooked again. Instead we were both presented with the most delicious entree-sized dish of grilled mackeral (complementary). The lobster and my muntjac duly arrived perfectly prepared after we had eaten the mackeral (and a sensible waiting period!). The only flaw in this was that we were far too full to have dessert afterwards!
The Ledbury has an exceptionally good winelist but since we were just two, we wanted to order by the glass so we could enjoy several different wines. The sommelier gave excellent advice on what might match our chosen dishes and our wine preferences from the by-the-glass options available. We were very happy with what she recommended and I would highly recommend this approach. I can't think of anything bad to say about The Ledbury except perhaps that you need to book well ahead of time to get a table (especially for dinner). If the food and service stays as good as it is now, the waiting time is not going to get any shorter! For lovers of fine food and wine, The Ledbury experience is revelatory.
