“We liked Dunstan Hall”

De Vere Dunston Hall

6 May 2008

Just returned from a one night stay. The hotel was doing a special offer for the Easter period and the room rates were around half the usual price. We took advantage of this and booked a suite. The room was large, clean and comfortable. the bathroom was very large and spotless. We had beautiful views over the terrace and over the gardens and golf course. We didn't eat dinner in the restaurant so cannot comment, but we did breakast in the morning which is a self service affair. The quality and quantity of the food was very good. I would recommend this hotel particularly if you can get a good rate. I must be honest though if we had paid the the rack rate of around £200 I don't I would have been quite as impressed as I was. We paid £99 for a beautiful room and that price included breakfast.

Beautiful looking hotel, in fantastic grounds. Met with a cocktail as we checked in which was a lovely touch. Staff on Reception really friendly. Room was pleasant and we had a small patio area so were able to take advantage of the afternoon sun. Leisure area really nice, loved the fairy lights in the steam room. We were booked in on a DBB rate, so had dinner in The Brasserie. The DBB rate allows you a 3 course carvery or you can put the £18 towards the 'normal' sit down menu - we received an email explaining all this along with a price list for both the food menu and the beauty treatment menu. Restaurant was very busy with a hen party going on, which sort of dampened our romantic meal for 2. The food was very good, with a good choice for all 3 courses, then coffee and mints to follow, excellent value. We were warned the wine was very expensive, but we had a lovely bottle of Shiraz for £18. The only down side to the stay was the disturbed nights sleep. The bed was really comfortable, as were the pillows, but all through the night, the noise from the corridor was a real pain, it seemed as soon as I had got to sleep I was woken by noisy guests, talking loudly!!! walking past our room, this happened right up until 3am. Breakfast is only served till 10am, which I thought rather early for a Sunday, and it was very busy. I was disappointed in that there was very limited fresh fruit available, just a few very thin slices of melon, but apart from that it was pleasant enough. All in all a very pleasurable experience, and there was no noise the following evening, so I guess that means avoid a Saturday night!

“So near - yet so far!”

OK - So this is the first review of a UK hotel I've made - What a great location - so near to Norwich city centre, yet right in the country - What a beautiful setting - you can see why so many choose this as an ideal location for a wedding ceremony!

What makes this hotel so good (a four star) is not only the beautiful building (18th century Elizabethan!) but the staff. Unusually for a UK hotel, the staff are so attentive and very welcoming. Spent the Easter weekend here and OK the weather was awful, but the room and the hotel were exceptional

Thank you Dunston Hall - We'll be back very very soon!!

“Nice hotel - if you're into golf!”

Really nice location - long sweeping drive leading up to the hotel. Greenery all around you - unfortunately though, if you want to go on long walks through the grounds you can't because it is one big golf course !!

Asked at Reception for any "designated walks" but there was only one! Had a really nice room, but for a four star hotel it was looking a little tired in places (hanging wallpaper, bathroom tiles rather grimey). If you are into golf though, it would be a great place for a long weekend.

Not one for the children - nothing to do, but less than 15 minutes into Norwich, which is very good for shopping.

So . . . . golf - yes . . . . . long walks - no.
