“Pleasant 3 star hotel near Norwich”

Barnham Broom Classic Hotel

7 Jan 2008

2 night weekend stay in early January booked through Laterooms at £59 (Friday) and £70 (Saturday) for a double room with breakfast
This is a modern 3 star hotel and golf and leisure complex in a rural location about 15/20 minutes drive from the centre of Norwich.
Staff were welcoming and friendly.
Pleasant lounge with log fire.
Spacious room with excellent bathroom, although no upgrades to flat screen TV yet.
Excellent breakfast selection in restaurant with views over undulating golf course. Did not eat any other meals in the hotel, although in addition to the restaurant there is a sports bar which serves bar meals.
Pleasant, good sized swimming pool also overlooking golf course, plus gym and squash courts.
Recommended if you can obtain similar room rates to above, and seems superior to the other hotels in the Norwich area at similar or slightly higher prices.

“Disappointing, London Prices in Norfolk”

Barnham Broom Classic Hotel

7 Aug 2007

Stayed here for a friend's wedding, at 140 quid a room in Norfolk expected something special. The room was tiny, with the so called double bed being just about large enough for 2 people. For a luxery hotel there was no air con, no mini bar or complementary water, a toilet which wouldn't flush properly and a chest had to be moved to use the iron. Very disappointing. The breakfast was good but the restaurant over priced.

Would not recommend this place, although my husband played a round of golf and said that the golf course was wonderful.

We arrived here with some trepidation. The previous reviews are, to say the least, mixed. They vary between the wonderful and the awful.
For no other reason than congenital stupidity I expected this to be an old hotel. Its not, its very new, probaby within the last twenty years. Its half hotel, half golf and leisure club. The public rooms are comfortable, the bedrooms warm, attractive and spacious but not overwhelming in character. Most importantly, the room was quiet, the shower powerful, the toiletries ok and the tea-making well stocked (nice bickies). Some of the corridors need a lick of paint but its not scruffy by any means.

Breakfast is good with a nice grill, three choices of fish (shame about the supplement) a good buffet and good cold choices.

Dinner was good, not cheap but good. It wont win a michelen award but we took some friends for my sons birthday party and it was by no means an embarrassment.

I found the staff personal, excellent, efficient, kind and thoughtful. This may contrast with other reviews which, perhaps, says something about what you give determines what you get.

Which brings me to Vicky. Vicky works in the restaurant in the evening. I asked her if we could dress the table in any way for my son's birthday dinner the following evening. After saying that it would have to have been booked in advance she popped back and said that she didnt mind going to the party shop on her way in tomorrow and getting some balloons and sparklies and things.

When we came in that night the table had been beautifully dressed and made the evening. Her bill for this work was £1.98. Thats commitment and service par excellence in my book.

Would I go again, definately, would I recommend it, without exception.

Terrible staff, terrible rooms,..overpriced,..unhelpful,...I could go on but it's too depressing,.....it was supposed to be a treat for my mum,...but I wish we hadn't have wasted our money (wanted to stay near her grandchildren for a few days,)...the web site pictures are NOT the room you will get!!! Looked good on the web site which is why we booked,..but it was a real dump when we got there. Don't waste your money if you have any taste!!1

“Good Offer”

Barnham Broom Classic Hotel

I booked 2 nights here recently for £55/per night/per room inc breakfast, subject to eating a 3 course meal in the restaurant.

Considering the price I thought the value was very good, I mean what do you expect for a £55/night offer! You’re don’t exactly expect a 5 star luxury experience. The venue itself is quite different, it spreads outwards instead of upwards, but fairly basic in all respects. The most pleasant area was the sports bar, with a good view over the golf course. I was disappointed with the decor in the restaurant, so much more could be done with it. It would have been good to have the blinds open while eating dinner, maybe with some lighting over the golf course. The food was a surprise, a lot better than I expected (being quite critical of food), it was really good and I was looking forward to eating there on the second evening. My only complaint is that the olive oil and balsamic on the table was not very good and the wine was over priced. The restaurant service on the first night was very poor, this seemed to be down to inexperience and bad management, but on the second night the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were very good and plentiful.

The overall feeling of the place was good, there were some friendly people, especially in the health club area, which we used a lot. The gym equipment was very good, but the pool was a lot smaller than I had hoped for.

For summer visitors it would be good if there was an outdoor seating area and balcony from the sports bar, maybe this is lacking for health and safety reasons (off target golf balls).

It looks like a great place to play golf and while we were there it was very quiet, it would make a good relaxing golfing weekend if that’s what you came here to do.

Overall I had a really good 2 days and I would come back if the same offer was on, I doubt I would pay much more.
