A party of 6 of us stayed at Mannings Hotel in July. At 1 am my wife and I were woken by the fire alarm. We exited from the 2nd floor via an exterior unlit fire escape, in total darkness. We could not see our hand in front of our face. we could have fallen to our deaths. Subsequent inspection in the morning showed there was not any light bulb in the fitting. We grouped with the other guests in front of the hotel. A guest had to ring the fire brigade. because no representative of the hotel made an appearance until after the arrival of the fire brigade. A rude woman, who we took to be the manager, turned up, and instructed us to "go to bed". When our party of 6, (the others also had problems exiting the hotel,) sought to bring these points to her attention she was very rude. I asked her if she didn't care about her guests, she replied, "I couldn't give a ----". (I recorded her confirming this when we checked out the following day). We were charged full rate because they insisted on getting our credit card no. when we booked. The owner never turned up, let alone apologised. We wrote to the owner, guess what, he never replied. I've not even mentioned all the other points - they pale into insignificance. They advertise as a hotel, it is an ill run boarding house where the guest is not respected. This must be the worst hotel in the World. Stay at your peril.
