We had a lovely weekend at the George Hotel in Norwich.
The lovely Garden Suite, the very good food (both nights, Rosette Awarded), and courteous and friendly staff did make it an enjoyable and relaxing w/e.
Only a 10 min walk to the city centre, would definately recommend this hotel.

Had trouble choosing from the vast morass of Norwich hotels so picked this one sight unseen on the basis of its AA rosette for food.
The food was indeed good, the restaurant atmospheric and the bar pleasant. The room was a little disappointing but was clean and in possession of all the usual comforts.
The thing that really made the difference was the staff - we were travelling with a six week-old baby and all that that entails, but the reception, bar and restaurant staff went out of their way to accomodate us. In an era of impersonal service and by-the-book corporate chains this is worth its weight in gold.

We reserved a double room with shower and bath but were given the most ridiculous, tiny twin (shower only) instead, without warning. We asked to change but couldn't.

one of the beds was too small for either of us to sleep on comfortably - head against one wall and feet against another meant we could not stretch out. I ended up sleeping on the floor (and i'm 5'7 tall|).



The room had dirty fingermarks on the walls and the shower leaked. I had to fix the TV reception myself (although the room was designed in such a way that only 1 person could watch at the same time.

At breakfast we had to ask for butter, salt and pepper and sauces. When these were brought to our table, like the food and drinks, the waiting staff did not lay them on the table but delivered them into our hands.

Located in quiet area... a typical English hotel with strange up and down stair cases to the rooms. The room #127 was fine for one or possibly two people. Bathroom was fine, bed was comfortable, room heating was noisy with steam pipes but could be turned off with valves. Housekeeping was very good. Very nice people working at the reception, bar and restaurant. Wireless internet was very convenient. For me, the George Hotel was perfect for a moderately priced hotel, exactly where I wanted to stay in Norwich. It may not be the choice for demanding people.... that's OK, they can pay twice as much for one of the many modern/cookie cutter type hotels in the same town. I would stay at this hotel again because it was comfortable enough, affordable enough and more than enough friendly and helpfull.

People who enjoy long walks, like me, simply walked into city center each day. Used a taxi only to get from train station to hotel and back (with luggage). Other folks may consider renting an auto.
