I booked through Laterooms for £50 bed and breakfast, and on arrival, they got off to a bad start by the sole receptionist ignoring me whilst she answered a series of phone calls.
Then, despite requesting a non-smoking room, I was given a room at the furthest point on the upper floor which stunk of cigarette smoke. I carried both bags back to reception to be allocated the room next to the original one - still, walking is supposed to be good for you.
The pillows in the room were awful, and channel 5 had vanished from the tv repertoire.
At breakfast I was given a table which had been used, and the waitress walked off with the only cup. I went to get one from another table when my tea arrived, but despite asking twice for toast , it never arrived and I gave up.
The fruit salad consisted of dry slices of grapefruit and melon, which was different, and the orange juice jug remained empty for 20 minutes until a guest asked for some..
No-one was looking after the hot buffet and bacon had run out.
This place is pretty desperate and despite the rate, I'll look elsewhere next time.

“Brilliant”

Well i must say, i went on this site and read some reviews before i left, i was pleased to see that the most recent review was very encouraging and i went with high hopes which was met

Clearly the hotel has had a lick of paint and a re-think (if there was ever anything wrong with it in the first place) Ok so the bathrooms need re-vamping but they were spotless, the beds were really comfy, and had a brilliant night sleep with fantastic air con.

The food was devine. They have 4 menu's on offer. Table D'hote (changes every night) Al A carte (offering a Buinsess class menu, which includes free drinks) Lounge Menu (avaible in restaurant by request) and a promotional menu (at my stay it was a chinese menu, very cheap and great value!)

I was there 4 nights so tried something differnet off each menu! The food was delicious, promt, and very well presented

The staff were fantastic. Always smiling, always happy to help and always on hand when needed. The Resaurant Supervisor would do anything to make sure the guests were happy, but to be hounst it was just everyones politness, and caringness as there was nothing wrong with the restaurant.

The reception area (while i was there) had some new painting put up which look lovely.

Rooms very spacious, Reception and lounge spacious, Bar (only smoking area in hotel) was comforable and easy to watch the flat screen tv!

I would reccomend staying at the hotel - they have different rates for each day, ring direct for the best rate and deals.

Fantastic :D

“Can't be the same hotel?”

Having seen some of the negative reviews, I'm not sure it can be the same place?

Initial impressions were good with a large comfortable reception, lounge, bar, and restaurant area. The receptionist was very welcoming.

OK, the decor isn't what I'd choose for home, but does seem to have been recently revamped. I didn't see any sign of threadbare carpets. The rooms were a good size and clean. The beds seemed fairly new and were very comfortable - and you get two pillows each without having to ask or go hunting!

The bathroom may have been old fashioned - plastic marble wall cladding - but was undamaged and clean. Even had a real wooden toilet seat (albeit a bit loose!).

The leisure centre has a good size pool, steamroom, sauna, and jacuzzi. The jacuzzi is a bit small - two or three good friends only at a time <g> It does work - if it's off, it's because the centre has been quiet - just ask the attendant to switch it on.

Didn't use the gym. It looks very well equipped though. You have to be over 18 and fill out a short health questionnaire.

The food was basic but good and not too expensive. Breakast buffet a little slow to be replenished from time to time, but decent selection and well cooked. We had some baguettes - my ham and mustard one was smothered in English mustard and blew my head off. I returned it as inedible and was given immediate choice of another one, or money back, as well as free drink and profuse apologies. The service generally was great. There is also a new carvery being built across the road, which should address the lack of menu variety.

Next door is a ten-pin bowling alley with a cheap cafe for snacks and pool tables, etc. Better than sitting in your room watching TV.

Overall, excellent value for money and good facilities. Helpful and courteous staff make this hotel highly recommended.

3 collegues and i stayed at this hotel whilst on a course we found the hotel in general comfotable although the menu at times was a little repetative (we stayed 4 nights) evening meal a little overpriced our only complaint would be the early wake up call at 4 one morning when the fire alarm sounded because a resident had thrown a tantrum and smashed their room up police came and carted them away no real apology from hotel managment.the other problem was not having a dedicated barman at times had to go looking for someon to serve.

“Tired”

Quality Hotel Norwich

Ahh… the “Quality Hotel”. Doesn’t your heart sink when you hear your employer has booked you into the “Quality Hotel” to save £10?

The hotel is conveniently located on an industrial estate, 300 yards from the crisp factory.

Of course, you can’t use the word “quality” without an adjective. Something can be, for instance, of high quality – it’s a relative term. So how does this grammatically challenged hotel fare?

Let’s start with the good bits. My room was clean and had air conditioning. And there’s a pool. Okay, I’ve seen bigger pools, but once two blokes had got out, the remaining three of us could paddle up and down without bumping into each other.

The first room I was assigned was on the first floor. When I walked in, there was a draft, and I thought someone had opened the window to freshen the room. But when I went to close the window, I found it was already shut. Each room has two windows that open, and each window has two catches. Only this one had a catch missing, and wasn’t closed at the bottom, hence the draft. Without the catch, you couldn’t close the window. So back to reception.

The second room turned out to be on the ground floor below the first. Now this one had a catch missing from each window. Sensing it wasn’t going to get any better, I decided to give in. I still needed to close the windows properly, so I walked round the outside of the building until I came to my room. Before pushing each window shut, out of curiosity I found I could get all fingers of both hands under the edge of the window, and I have little doubt I could have pulled the thing open.

The next thing I did was to lock my laptop in the boot of the car.

Bizarrely, there was a telephone in the bathroom.

Breakfast was okay.

The moral of the story is: spend another £10 and go to Barnham Broom, at least the windows close and you get a DVD player.
