My wife and I recently stayed two nights at this boutique property at the edge of Norwich. The property is nicely sited with well cared for mature gardens. The main building is elegant, the epitome of relaxation, and very charming, not to forget the staff who are each super. Chris is an excellent host and provides a high level of ‘personal touch’ to your visit [restaurant tips, driving directions, hiking trails, etc] if you wish. Our room (#1 of 8) was spacious, well appointed, clean and very comfortable. The bathroom was modern and spacious with a bath/shower.
While the Old Rectory many not be for a family with children, it certainly is a very romantic spot for couples looking to find rest and relaxation in what we found to be a most underrated part of the U.K.> for North Americans, imagine staying at your well to do aunt or uncles’ fabulous Georgian home complete with staff to help out.
The Old Rectory has very good dining room. Service is pleasant and effective. Thought normally leery of fixed price menus, if we had any regret it was that we only took one of our two evening meals at the establishment. The dining room itself is bright and very pleasant. The food, particularly the fish we ate, is well prepared and worthy of the 2 AA rosettes. We were disappointed to have missed the afternoon tea served complete with scones from the kitchen which, we heard from another guest, was top drawer. The English breakfast, included in the room rate, is prepared to order and also first rate.
We would certainly highly recommend this establishment to those visiting Norwich or local residents looking to escape the rest of the city without driving a long distance.
