“Missing window pane...”

Old Brewery House

3 Feb 2008

Stayed in the Old Brewery for 2 nights in February 08. Our room was very large but freezing cold- even though there was a radiator pumping out heat. On closer inspection the window nearest the bed had a full glass window pane missing. An attempt had been made to repair this with plexi glass but there were huge gaps and it had been poorly done with duct tape. It was obvious that this 'mend' had been in place for some time as there was mould growing and it was very dirty. The curtains were flapping with the strength of the draft coming through. Freezing!

Bathroom was in desperate need of refurbishment as was the general standard of the room, old carpet, bed linen, thin old pillows. Its a shame because the room is spacious with a pretty view onto the sunny square. The antiques are nice too, but its let down by the sad curtains, carpet etc.

Staff were not very friendly some to the point of surlyness (when I asked one for a second pillow, as they were so thin, rather than getting me another he curtly told me that he himself slept with none! End of conversation!)

Breakfast was ok and there are some kind staff but on the whole this hotel is in a sad state of disrepair.

Lovely old fashioned hotel. Lots of wood etc. Small lounge with open fire, with nooks and crannies also. Staff very friendly and extremely hard working. Great buffet breakfast, evening meal excellent. Very attractive and tasty buffet served on New Years Eve, best roast beef I have ever tasted, also delicious gammon.
Room was a bit dark and needed more lamps. Also no electric clock. Bathroom good with good quality shower gels.

Every year i come here, and i find the feeling of a nice little pub/hotel in the middle of norfolk, i feel it has been changed to 'just another boring hotel', because 3 years ago, it used to be owned by a nice gentleman and his wife. But sadly he sold the hotel to Swallow inns and hotels, then this year oxford inns and hotels took over. I feel there is not as much warmth to the hotel as there used to be.

Stayed at the Old Brewery House in Reepham for one Saturday night. The chap on reception was really helpful when we needed a taxi and rang around for us. The room was really big with a four poster bed and seperate bathroom area. Breakfast was great and the room, bed linen and towels were all really clean. The only downside was that the bedroom was in need of a full decorate, paint and wallpaper was really old. Other than that, it was an ideal base for a concert we went to see at Blicking Hall.
