Wrong booking reservations and prepayment rate & information, language challenges with reception staff. Known problems with internet room connection yet still allocated room and charged fee. Front of house staff seem to be trying very hard but I sensed more management communication and organisation required.

Usual good standard rooms, clean and well serviced. Irritating early morning internal noise/doors banging noise. Beware late night noise nuisance from adjacent Ice rink, quiet rooms are to front and leisure club end of hotel. Parking limited when hotel busy and Ice rink and racket/leisure club in full swing (sorry). Would have preferred to open windows to noisy air conditioning

In fairness, breakfast supplies kept coming, though customers were hovering outside the adjacent kitchen for cutlery & plates - Insufficient staffing and resources on those busier mornings. Evening meals - poor selection, certainly nothing to write home about and only if you’re desperate. No Bar/lounge or dining area atmosphere, limited bar facility and ran out of draught beer!

Unforgivable was the failure to fix the broken lift over the whole of the long Spring Bank holiday weekend and the ‘invisible’ management and other staff failing to assist older clients and those with infirmities struggling to negotiate the stairs with their baggage – Shameful!

Best of all, take advantage of hotel arrangements with sports club next door, tennis and squash courts, indoor & outdoor pools, extensive spa, steam and sauna & hot tub. Bar and dining area all for £10 p/p/p/day but not widely promoted within hotel.

Good value and standard of accommodation, clean throughout, but (as usual) don’t expect any service and attention to detail.

“Great Value - clean and comfortable”

Holiday Inn Express Norwich

6 Jan 2008

Stayed at this hotel over Christmas while visiting family. It was exactly what I hoped it would be - good value (as I was paying for 2 rooms) and clean and comfortable. The hotel is bright and modern as are the rooms. This is a limited service hotel but the breakfast that is included is plentiful and with lots of choices, including healthy ones, and the breakfast seating area is very pleasant.
The front desk staff could not have been more courteous and helpful especially as I'm sure they would much rather have been at home with their families than manning a hotel desk on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Minor hiccups like the only staff person on duty being unable to find the second key to a safety deposit box on Christmas Day did not spoil our stay in any way.
Overall a more pleasant experience than I expected. If you are looking for a good deal and have reasonable expectations, this is the hotel you should choose in Norwich.

In the USA Holiday Inn Express hotels vary a lot in style but in the UK they are usually exactly the same. This is an exception. One of the best I've ever stayed in. Large open reception area. Big rooms.
Free on demand shuttle service to and from airport or railway station. (Railway station close to town centre)
Would highly recommend.

Booked this hotel after looking through Tripadvisor reviews, we were going to a concert at the UEA and needed an overnight stop. I know Norwich quite well and was a little concerned both by the hotels proximity to a very large ASDA and the fact that music can always be heard blaring out from the ice-rink next door. I need not have worried however since once into the hotel lobby everything was quite and calm. The lobby is light, modern and airy with plenty of seating. One personal dislike is the numerous TV's attached to the walls which in my opinion spoil the otherwise calm and modern atmosphere of the place. Check in was very fast and efficient and we explained that we were short of time as we had been delayed en route - the receptionist gave us our key and suggested we dropped our bags into our room whislt she arranged a taxi for us, a great help.
After the concert we returned to find the bar still open although the bartender did require a little help as he didn't know what a scotch & american was!
The room itself was clean and comfortable. The bathroom facilities are good - better than some 4* hotels that I have stayed in providing all required toiletries and even disposable face cloths which I find very convenient. The shower is good and hot with a constant flow of water - often not the case in larger hotels! The air-conditioning/heating system in the room was a bit complicated but the staff had thoughtfully stuck a lamiated copy of the instructions to the wall which saved a lot of time and once working to our satisfaction the unit was very efficient. As with the lobby the room was quite and we were not disturbed by noise at all.
Breakfast is the standard cold buffet style common to this chain and is perfectly adequate with plentiful supplies of everything.
As with previous reviewers during our stay at this hotel the lift was not working - this seems to be a recurrent theme and I would advise those unable to use stairs to check with the hotel before arrival .
I booked this hotel in advance on the internet and paid £51 for a double room with breakfast for 2 people - this is a great price for a clean comfortable night. The hotel is not too far from the city centre but a bit too far to walk, however there are plenty of buses and taxi's in Norwich.
