Stayed here for a wedding anniversary and compared to other hotels stayed at various other Yorkshire Locations would definitely give this one a miss.
Room
Booked late and requested a four-poster bed room and admittedly although booked late was told there was one room left. (This was room 10). The room was not big enough for a bed of this size and was more suited to a normal 4’6” bed. The wallpaper was peeling and the general state of the furnishings was tatty. The bathroom had a broken shower, which they did promptly fix, but had damp patches and inadequate heating.
Bar
This was frequented by locals and the proprietor who were constantly playing on the central pool table and made it an uncomfortable place to spend the evenings. My advice – uses the pub across the road or walk to the Mallyan Spout Hotel.
Breakfast
No complaints here. Nice food well presented tables and a reasonable choice.
Evening Meal
Had evening meal here on our anniversary night. Good value for money and an excellent wine at a very good price (it was a bin end). Ate at the Gothland arms also but that was dreadful. You need to drive to somewhere else to get a decent meal.
Summary
The hotel is very run down. Both the hotel and village tends to rely on its ‘Heartbreak’ fame, which cannot go on forever. I have stayed at Holmfirth (Last of the Summer Wine) and used the Old Bridge Hotel. My advice to TV fans – go there instead. Otherwise if you want a break on the Yorkshire Moors then Hawes is the place to go.
