“overpriced hostel”

Harbour View Guest House

20 Jun 2008

Arrived to find the room I had been allocated was not ready, was given another one which was and was ok although there was rubbish under the bed. The do it yourself breakfast was available all morning because the bread and milk remained in situ for more than a day rather than being fresh! washing up was also necessary.
The price charged was twice that on the website and
despite living down the street Mr Denton couldnt be bothered to come to collect payment.
The laziest run B and B/ hostel I've ever come across!!!
Go elsewhere.

It’s nice to see the owner has a good sense of hummer writing his own reviews i.e.
“Fantastic bed and breakfast”, “Really good guesthouse”, “Harbour View Guesthouse is the cleanest in town.”

Don’t be fooled this is not a place for the faint hearted take the advice of the true review writers and stop at a real B&B or face the consequences, You have been warned. ! Its a sleazy dirty hovel you would even be better off in a £10 a night Youth Hostel.

I booked a double en suite room for my elderly parents for 2 nights, i was told they offered a continental breakfast, so was annoyed to hear my mum had had to wash up and find her own breakfast from the cupboards, which consisted of toast and cereal. The owner lived down the street so they didn't see much of him..the room was small but clean, and the location was good. The website doesn't state the breakfast is self serve and that there is only 1 table to sit at that seats 5 so good job it wasn't busy! It cost £60 a night for the room and i would recommend that you try other bed and breakfast where you get the personal touch and better facilities for the same money..on complaining after the weekend i found the owner rude and unhelpful, he says he told me when i booked it was self serve but if he had i wouldn't have booked as the idea was my parents were looked after that weekend.

My family and I have just spent a long weekend at this bed and breakfast and were impressed by the warm welcome and kind hosptiality of Matthew and Nicola. I would strongly recommend this band b to anyone with a family looking to stop in Whitby. The room was clean and spacious and thouroughly maintained. The continental style breakfast was a very nice touch as is available all morning until checkout, this consisted of fruit, orange juice, various cereals, crumpets, toast, bagels, croissants and as much tea and coffee as you require during breakfast.
We were lucky enough to have booked an ensuite with harbour view, which wasbrilliant on a morning.(as we live in a city)and try to make our little trips to the coast as pleasurable as possible. There is ample parking to the front and to the rear of the property. This is our first time to the harbour view, and we dont have any complaints what so ever,we have BOOKED AGAIN FOR THE SUMMER.

“Do Not Waste Your Money!!!”

Very disapointed VERY BASIC.Huge spiders on stairway and in bedroom.Did not expect a self service breakfast that you got yourself out of the kitchen! Could not face staying there after seeing it. Instead booked a Luxury guesthouse other side of harbour for the same price with BEAUTIFUL HUGE TASTEFUL ROOM and FAB FULL ENGLISH BREAKFAST.My advice is do not waste your money when there are plenty more superior places to stay

I told your husband the breakfast was self serve continental, the website states the breakfast is self serve continental. You were recommended by friends who must of also told you about the breakfast arrangements. The price of a night at our guesthouse is below the average charged in Whitby.

As for the spiders you encountered on the stairs and the bedroom they were sorry you left without paying your bill but they had a collection and payed the remainder!

Many Thanks, Matthew.
