“Three times a winner”

Whitby Retreats

We have stayed at the Whitby Retreats holiday home three times now and have been absolutely delighted every time.

Accommodation
This first and second floor apartment sits securely behind the huge wrought iron gates of the Captain Cook museum and seems to share the museum's private courtyard and access to the harbour view. Upstairs, away from it all but with the buzz of the town all around you, the retreat effect is perfect; the rooms are large, airy and characterful while being well appointed, modern in decoration and very comfortable. The attention to details like the complimentary wine, leather sofas, cream carpets, DVD etc all make this feel like a luxury break.
Activities
Whitby is less a full on activity break for us and more of an unwind and get some English seaside character. There is obviously masses of history and I'm told there is a major folk festival and a huge Goth, er, gathering but we love the the crazy golf, lunch at The Magpie Cafe, a walk along the front and cream teas at Botham's.

We have just returned from a 3-night stay at this self-catering house/apartment - it is'nt a hotel. Everything was super from the booking onwards when Emma could not have been more helpful even though we were a little vague about our dates.

The house is really lovely, very secure, spotlessly clean and very nicely appointed throughout. The view from the sitting room is especially nice. The bathrooms are great and the owners really have thought of everything to make your stay special. We were even greeted with a complimentary bottle of wine! The only thing that wasn't there was a bar of soap in the shower, but I mention this only to advise you to pop one in your bag and I wouldn't wish to detract from what was a lovely three-day break.

We ate twice at the White Horse and Griffin, two minutes walk away in Church Street, and the food, we had wonderful seafood and steaks, was absolutely delicious and the staff very helpful and attentive. There is a bit of a shortage of good restaurants. There are lots of fish and chip shops, but DON'T be tempted to go to Robinson's just around the corner from the apartment. The fish and chips were truly, unforgettably revolting! We hear that Mr Chips is excellent but didn't go there ourselves. If you want some really nice fish and chips pop along to the pub just before the little bridge ( can't recall the name) on the front at Sandsend (5 minutes drive away) where the food was lovely and restored my faith in real Yorkshire fish and chips!

What can I say ? nothing bad that's for sure. This holiday cottage (house) is just amazing - there isn't anything to improve upon - everything you could possibly want - excellent location - fantastic accomodation and facilities - a true home from home - only one downside to our visit, and that was it wasn't long enough !
Don't even hesitate to book - this place is fantastic - i'll be back for sure.

Whitby Retreats is a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom
holiday cottage next door to Captain Cook Museum
with great harbour views. The decor is stunning,
modern and straight out of 'Home Beautiful'. The
kitchen is state of the art, the beds new and
comfortable with fluffy white duvets and pillows.
We stayed 3 nights and did not want to leave. The
owners have thought of everything - videos, cds,
toys for the kids. Great value compared to a small
hotel room for the same price. Highly recommend.
