I booked this hotel for one night during June anticipating a welcome break - a word of warning it is being 'refurbished' (lightly uses expression for major inconvenience). Rooms have a view (of Scaffolding) and are at best described as shabby, tatty and dated. For the priviledge I paid 900 airmiles and £50.

Having a background in Hotel management the staff are best described as unhelpful and insolent and I do not exaggerate (bar one lady who was the one redeeming element of this whole experience). I am in the process of getting my money back because staying the night was not an option under such circumstances. I viewed 3 rooms in total, each worse than the previous.

I Contacted Airmiles who said they had never had anyone complain about this hotel beore which made me see RED) Perhaps they should check out Tripadvisor. This is the worst Hotel I have ever stayed in - I am sure I am not alone in this viewpoint. Take a look at the snapshots I took of my experience - not quite the holiday snaps of York I was hoping to take!

Read the reviews, and what a mixed bag. Only reason i did book it in the end because every where else in York was full. Then discovered we had to pay for the pleasure of leaving our car in the car park. Still went with an open mind. Booked in no problem at all. Went for the evening meal which was part of the package. Sat in the bar area and it was freezing, the meal was ok but spoilt by the fact we had to wait ages in between courses. Room was lovely although on the 6th floor and had gales on the first night so very very noisy with the old windows rattling. Everything else ok shower and plenty of hot water. Room became abit like a sauna at one pont but better than being cold. Staff polite and friendly had to queue for breakfast, but worth the wait. Would visit this hotel again as one of the best indian reataurants is next door. Well worth a visit lovely meal with brilliant food and lovely staff.

My partner treated me to this hotel for a birthday present. We choose this as it was part of the Radisson group.

The only good thing I could say is great location.

On the bad side, the hotel set out has a hospital feel, the rooms are small and dirty.

We was delighted on the Sunday morning when all the heating and hot water was gone in the hotel, when calling reception there was no answer, so upon check out we highlighted the fact that there was no heating or hot water that day. Our reply was not sorry just someone will fix it later, I suspect that if we didnt highlight this to them nothing would have been said.

Keep away.

Good location for work and sightseeing, but that's about as far as it goes. I stayed at the hotel for three nights. The first of these it was very full with conference delegates, and in the morning the dining room simply couldn't cope with the crowds, with queues stretching to 15-20 minutes. OK if you're a tourist, not if you have meetings to attend. The staff eventually tried to seat me in a spare space at an occupied table, which was awkward for both me and the other guests, and which I declined. Very unprofessional behaviour in my opinion.

On the second morning I did manage to get breakfast, but it wasn't worth the wait, frankly - averagely-average breakfast buffet; ho, hum.

Breakfast was sufficiently offputting that I didn't bother with an evening meal, but a perusal of the menu indicated the usual overpriced hotel fodder. Thankfully, York is well supplied with excellent eating and watering holes, and going out for food was no hardship whatsoever; I would recommend any city centre hotel guest to do the same!

The room was a monument to peeling paint and curly wallpaper; the window didn't shut properly and I was treated to the drunken seranades of the locals as they staggered along the room outside. The heating was not controllable however, so it was a choice of shutting the window and frying, or leaving it open and listening to the more exuberant nightlife at max. volume. The TV remote control had no batteries, the film selection didn't work and even the lace curtains were grubby.

Would I go back? Why on earth would I do that? In a city with so many good places to stay and things to do, surely you can do better then this?

I booked the hotel at the last minute and nearly cancelled as the reviews were not good. I was pleasantly surprised, the location was perfect, our room was good, not outstanding but clean and did not give us cause for complaint. We did go to the hotel restaurant but were very disappointed by the quality of the food and the very very slow service even though the restaurant was nearly empty. I would therefore strongly recommend you eat else where. The breakfast however was excellent, both fresh and varied. Overall we received value for money in a great location and would stay here next time we have a short break in York. I gave the hotel above average primarily due to the location but also the breakfast which gave you a great start to the day - room was average. We parked in the hotel carpark which cost £10 per 24hrs. You should note though that I was told by the reception that it is offered on a first come first served basis so you can not rely on its availability but there is an NCP up the road if its full.
