Stayed here for 2 nights over the Easter weekend. We arrived at 1:20pm hoping that we could check in but had to wait until 2:00pm. Had a drink in the bar whilst we waited, the prices are not overly expensive. Also, the hotel allows pets / dogs to stay at the hotel so consider this if you have any animal allergies.
Location: Fantastic. Opposite part of the city wall and the Monkbar gate. No more than 5 minutes walk to the town centre, York Minster and Shambles.
Parking: Free parking for hotel guests. This is a bonus as most other hotels in York charge to park. The car park also has CCTV but be sure to arrive earlier than the check in time to get a space as I estimate that there are about 50 spaces.
Room: Quite spacious with a desk, wardrobe, table, 2 tub chairs and small flat screen TV. The 'double' bed was actually two singles pushed together which I do not like and the mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable. We were lucky to have a courtyard view room (see photo) rather than a room overlooking the noisy main road. On the Sunday night there was a wedding at the hotel and the music was very loud in our room (104) but it promptly ended at 12 midnight as advised by the reception staff. Please beware that should you have a tea / coffee in the room using a tea bag / sachet from the tea tray and the kettle, then a £2.50 fee will be added to your bill when you check out! Madness! The bathroom was ok but could do with a lick of paint and new flooring as the lino was a bit grimey.
Food: Breakfast was nice. There was a good variety including a buffet for hot English breakfast food, cereals, cheeses and yoghurt. I cannot comment on the evening meal as we did not eat at the hotel other than at breakfast time. We had to wait for 10 minutes on both mornings to be seated for breakfast as the hotel does not have enough tables for the number of guests that the hotel has capacity for.
Staff: All staff were friendly and helpful. We were pleasantly surprised when we returned from a day out to find that the house keeping staff had left a chocolate Easter egg in our room.
My conclusion is that the hotel is an average 3 star hotel in a really good location. I would probably stay there again for the location but would try to get at a better deal as the rooms were quite expensive for the quality of the rooms, especially the bathroom.
Ask for a room over looking the courtyard rather than the noisy main road. Don't make a cuppa in...

Thank you for your review, I am pleased to see that you found us to be located so well within the beautiful city of York, and that you were able to take great advantage of our free parking which as you point out is very unusual for a city centre hotel.
I am glad that you found the room to be spacious, the bed in your room is zipped and linked to make a Kingsize bed, I am sorry if that wasn't to your liking and I must say that we never charge for any items used on the in room tea tray, quite the opposite!, if any guest asked for extra teabags/coffee or hot chocolates we happily give as many as needed free of charge! I am sure there must have been a misunderstanding of your bill. I will ensure that reception explains any charges to guests thoroughly.
I was delighted to see that the Easter Bunny paid you a visit and left you an Easter egg!!
We aim to delight all of our guests and can be full of pleasant little surprises.. :)
I hope you come back to York soon and stay with us again.
