Myself and my friend visited York Marriott Hotel for a girls weekend as a gift to me from my husband with hotel points from his business travel entitlement. Gorgeous hotel, lovely and comfortable rooms and surrounding areas. The only area that let the hotel down was the lack of communication from the Reception Area/Concierge. Staff were unhelpful and non responsive when asking questions about local amenities, something that you need when visiting an area for the first time. There was one receptionist out of all of the team though who excelled in her position giving us useful information and advice, her name was Sophie Webster (no not the one out of Corrie lol). Also the use of the the number 85 when dialling Concierge was rubbish, rang 5 times within our stay to try and ask for them to book us a taxi and nobody ever answered. In the end we had to book ourselves using google on our mobiles to locate local taxi ranks and then ringing them ourselves. No comments re food as we didn't eat in hotel as it costed £15.50 for a english breakfast, so we visited Betty's Tea Room which was just perfect. Didn't complain as because we were staying free for two days practically just couldn't be bothered but if I had of paid for accommodation I would have been very disappointed with the reception team, pool was great as was gym. The Marriott is an excellent base for a trip to York, though its a bout a 20 minute walk into the centre but if you like walking your ok which we did, just remember sensible comfy shoes are a must as there is a lot of walking around in York!
