Fairfax House is one of England's hidden gems , it not big, there are no gardens or grounds, but there are fantastic interiors, wonderful collections of furniture, porcelain and fabrics and friendly, informative staff that are engaging and interesting. If you like Georgian interiors then this is definitely the house for you, described as the finest Georgian Town house in Britain it certainly deserves this accolade. The house has a good range of rooms and an impressive array of furniture that complements the house. As you walk around you get the impression that this could easily be an actual home and the family could walk back in through the front door at any moment. This house won't take you very long to walk around but it is good value. There is a small shop and the house would not be wheelchair friendly. The staff really know their stuff and are really friendly, the house is an ideal rainy or cold morning entertainment then a very short walk to the excellent castle museum for the afternoon.
