My wife and I stayed for three nights, half board, in February,2008 and booked via their website. On arrival found we had room eight which had large bedroom, bathroom and own private sitting room. The hotel is being totally upgraded and now has lovely reception area, lounge, bar, two dining rooms, gymnasium and pool. All the staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. What really made the stay was the food. Breakfast was choice of cereal, continental goodies, fruit juices plus up to eight cooked items from bacon to blackpudding, toast etc. The dinner was even better, fantastic choice of four courses, freshly cooked and I can honestly say that I have never seen such portions! The hotel is a five minute stroll from York centre and ideal for walking off the pounds put on at meal times. I would call thye hotel 'quaint' being built from the 1700's onwards but it is full of character and totally different from the concrete blocks springing up every where. At £115 per room for dinner bed and breakfast i think it was terrific value and would stay again.
