We stayed in the Travelodge Picadilly on Easter Sunday 2008.
It is a short taxi dive from the train station costing about £3.50.
Upon arrival you notice that the buiding is modern and smart looking, and it has a Wetherspoons pub joined onto it downstairs.
We tried to check in at 12.15pm only to be told that check in started at 3pm (it does state that on their website), anyway we asked if we could leave our bag with them whilst we took a look around - no, was the answer, they do not have those facilities, however for an extra £10 we could book in early.
We did book in early, not quite understanding about the tenner as the room was ready anyway.
After the sights of York, something to eat and enjoying the Wetherspoons nicely priced lager we retired for the night.
Getting to grips with the uncomfortable pillow was a struggle but eventually I dropped off to sleep about midnight.
It appears that from midnight onwards troops of marauding drunkens oathes start to noisily return from their night of drinking.
It is then you appreciate that although the hotel is nice and new, the builders have actually used rice paper for the internal partitions, you can hear everthing that goes on. One side were watching their TV, whilst the slapper on the other side in number 228 was moaning and groaning with her one night stand just a couple of feet away from us.
This hotel cost us £80 (including the extra £10) a bit much really considering for that we could have stayed in a bricks and mortar building and got a good nights sleep.
Anyway, we booked, stayed there and tried it, my only advice is if you want to sleep, try somewhere else.
