Just come back from a 2 day stay at the Queens Hotel, York. Great location. Very Good Weather! Self Service Buffet breakfast - excellent! Paid an extra £5 per night for a river view. Excellent Room (Room 40). My parents stayed in Room 39 - even better! Dual aspect room overlooking river. The room is huge and has two pull out matresses from the king size bed. Secure Parking (underneath hotel) was available for £10 per night - cheaper than the NCP up the road. A 5 minute walk takes you to the Shambles and Jorvik Centre. Plentry of places to eat/drink nearby. We had a set menu on first night at Rustiques, Castlegate (round the corner from Jorvik Centre). £12 for 3 course set menu. Very nice for early birds (5.30 - 7.00 pm). Second night ate at Russels, Coppergate. Again a 3 course carvery for £16.95. Excellent meal. Very filling! Highly recommended (5.30 - 7.00 pm). If you like shopping York is the place to go - excellent shopping round the Shambles/Coney Street/Newgate Market. We did the York Tour Bus (£9 per person), Jorvik Centre (£8) per person and would recommend both. Walked up to York Minster but did not go in. It is approx £8 per person and it can make it an expensive weekend if you try and do everything. Most things are approx £8 entrance fee. Will probably do this on our next visit together with Fairfax House which also looked very welcoming. This is opposite the Rustique Restaurant and Masonic Lodge. Whilst eating our dinner we noticed a lot of gentleman around next door in their Black Ties! Will definitely be going back and will definitely stay at The Queens Hotel.
