I have now stayed at the Hedley House on a number of occasions for work and pleasure. There are no five star facilities but who need them when the friendliness of the staff is so good. There is nothing they will not do to make your stay special, it could be the homemade banana cake, the "to die for" chocolate torte or even the ice cold bottle of wine in the spa!!! In fact if you are really feeling energetic.. Greg (the owner) will take you out on one of his famous runs in the amazing countryside!!! This is truly a home from home... Maybe i should write this review in case there is no room next time i try and book!!!

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights to celebrate my 40th birthday in April, we found the hotel on tripadvisor and would definately recommend anyone to stay there. Staff were very helpful and friendly, somebody always around to help if needed. The hotel is modern fresh and clean, the room large and spotlessly clean and tidy, breakfast very tasty and a good start to the day! It took us less than 10 minutes to walk slowly into town centre.
We will definately be returning as soon as possible, thankyou to all at Hedley House Hotel for making our stay so lovely.

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend to celebrate my birthday.

The location was excellent - just a few minutes' walk from the city walls, it was easy to get around. During the day we mostly walked. On Saturday night we took a cab back from the city centre, it was just over £3.

Our room was quite nice - a large bed, large wardrobe, plasma screen tv and dresser. However, the room was located in the basement - had a bit of a funny smell in the bathroom. The bathroom was carpeted and kind of felt like you were taking a shower in someone's closet.

When we got back late on Friday night the room was freezing cold, apparently they have the heating on a timer. I knew this from reading other reviews on tripadvisor - I mentioned it to the staff the next morning and there were no more problems.

The breakfast on offer was an English breakfast. Service was quick in a bright, large dining room.

The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a few hours between checkout and our train departure - they let us put our baggage in a side room so we didn't have to drag it about the city with us.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel, but would probably suggest you request not to be put in the basement room(s).

The Minster Suite is a like a lovely little flat near the top of Knowle House, the property right next door to Hedley House.

We stayed here for three nights with our 3 year old and specifically chose this Suite because it had 2 bedrooms and a living room which (in secret middle-age parent speak) means you can put the kids to bed and still stay up to enjoy a bottle of wine on your holiday!

The price might be a little more for this Suite than for other family rooms within the hotel, but this is a proper little flat - not a room - the kitchen makes all the difference - especially if you don't want to eat out every evening. Having said that, staying in the Minster Suite affords you all the benefits that you would get if you stayed in the main hotel anyway i.e. the really good cooked breakfast, the possibility of evening meals in the hotel, car parking etc etc.

The website photos for this Suite don't do it justice as it has been redecorated and looks really modern - and yes you can actually see the Minsiter from the living room window!

All the good reviews on Trip Advisor are true, the staff are lovely, the location is ideal, the car parking is spot on and the general attention to detail in customer service was really reassuring. Knowle House was so quiet, our sprog slept fitfully in his own bedroom (which he loved) and we had absolutely no complaints!

All long weekends with kids should be this relaxing!

Oh - and I thought about mentioning the beautiful gift that Mandy gave our son as we checked out, but then everyone would expect one and I'd feel a bit guilty if I were to set a precedent, so I won't mention it at all.
