I stayed at this hotel for two nights on my own, on business. It was a very positive experience on a number of accounts and I am already making plans to return - this time, a recreational visit with friends.
One of the best things about this hotel is its location, right opposite York Minster, in the centre of the old part of York, a £3 taxi ride from the station. Lots of good restaurants and all the sites within easy walking distance. The hotel is old and has all the features of an old hotel, bumpy floors, no lift and odd angles, nooks and crannies - very atmospheric. Staff were very helpful and friendly which is very important when you are a woman travelling alone. My room was opposite the Minster, it was warm and comfortable, 4 poster bed, en suite with a fab shower.
Breakfast was cooked to order and was great - local produce, well-cooked.
I will stay at this hotel on future visits to York.
