I stayed at this hotel for two nights on my own, on business.It was a very positive experience on a number of accounts and I am already making plans to return - this time, a recreational visit with friends.
One of the best things about this hotel is its location, right opposite York Minster, in the centre of the old part of York, a £3 taxi ride from the station. Lots of good restaurants and all the sites within easy walking distance.The hotel is old and has all the features of an old hotel, bumpy floors, no lift and odd angles, nooks and crannies - very atmospheric. Staff were very helpful and friendly which is very important when you are a woman travelling alone. My room was opposite the Minster, it was warm and comfortable, 4 poster bed, en suite with a fab shower.
Breakfast was cooked to order and was great - local produce, well-cooked.
I will stay at this hotel on future visits to York.

We have stayed here 3 times, in various different rooms. It is a lovely hotel, fantastic rooms (well worth paying for an executive suite) and the breakfast is lovely. the location is absolutely superb and so close to everything. We went to York for our honeymoon and chose a more expensive hotel thinking it would be special, but really wish we hadn't! This hotel has everything you need and is fab.

Excellent little hotel could't have asked for much more, and i'm serious with this. We stayed in the 'Guy Fawkes' swuite and I have seen a few earlier posts on this room. I can say that it looks as if it has been completely re-done as there were no 'craked floor tiles' in the bathroom or anything like it. Lovely roon, very romantic and has the Guy Fawkes novelty thing (he was born in the same building/room). Staff were friendly, which is often rare in hotels this close to the main tourist areas. I think it's a family run place, it definately had the feel of it. Location is probably the best you can get. It really is AMAZING. It is on the main shopping st of York and it really is brilliant. Anyway, it is defiantely worth the money- we had the champagne special and it was our 1st wedding anniversary. It was better than ever could have imagined.

My husband to be and i visited York to find a suitable hotel to host our wedding receiption. After visiting numerous hotels we decided on the Guy Fawkes because of the reception we received from the hotels owner Tony. Initially the reception was for only 14 people however, as weddings escalate it ended up a full sit down meal for 55 people and an evening buffet and disco for 65 people!!!!! The Hotel were brilliant especially Louise and Darrell who ensured that we got the wedding we wanted. Louise was fantastic, she bent over backwards for us and put up with my "bridezilla" moments of which there were many! The reception itself was amazing, the food was fantastic, far better than we expected. The Hotel is set in a fantastic location, the rooms are beautiful especially the Guy Fawkes room in the cottage where i stayed. The bed is so comfortable and the roll top bath is heaven. The breakfast was really nice. My husband and i visit york quite a lot and will be definately returning to the hotel in the future. Also my thanks go to Darrell for sitting up to early hours of the morning with my new husband getting extremely drunk!!! and my apologies to any other residents not in the wedding party for the amount of noise!!!
Please go and stay in the Hotel and you will not be disappointed.
