We found all aspects of our stay excellent. The room was very well furnished. The water was always piping hot. The service from all of the staff was very friendly and acommodating. The food and wine were extremely enjoyable. We were very impressed with the commitment and ingenuity of the owners to make Battlesteads carbon neutral.

We shared a family room with our 2 daughters (5 & 7) and they have told everyone about the curtained bunk bed! The hotel was comfortable and welcoming; the staff helpful and the food as wonderful as reported. The atmosphere in the bar was very relaxed an lots of useful information on hand.

I took my wife to Battlesteads for a couple of nights to celebrate her birthday. The hotel was fully booked for the first night, but we were offered a room in the nearby Black Bull plus the second night in the 'honeymoon room' at standard price. Later a room came free and we were moved into the hotel for the first night - all this was arranged helpfully by email. When we arrived we were welcomed by name. The hotel is comfortable with a standard of service that is attentive but not fussy. They have made great efforts to 'go green' and have an award to prove it, this enhances, not detracts, from comfort and cleanliness. Food is from a varied 'modern British' menu sourced locally. We enjoyed Northumberland rack of lamb, roe deer and gammon as main courses. Breakfasts were excellent for variety and freshness, with a fine view from the conservatory dining-room of the well-stocked sunken garden and its bird-life. The hotel is well placed for exploration of Hadrian's Wall, Kielder Forest and reservoir, the Scottish borders and Newcastle, while the village of Wark is worth exploring on foot.

Comfortable accomodation, delicious food and excellent, friendly service. All this and eco friendly! The hotel is perfectly situated for Keilder, beautiful walks and trips to Hexham and Corbridge. We will return!
