Visited the Ethos Hotel on 12-14 July. Nice location on a quiet side street close to the downtown area. Stayed in two rooms as we requested something bigger for the last night. The experience was good but somewhat variable and further attention to details is necessary to complete the room setups. The staff were, however, quite helpful: when we shifted rooms an item of clothing was mistakenly left behind. Called them up after we left Oxford and they agreed to post it back home to Canada at no charge! This was above and beyond and much appreciated.

Room tip: Ask for the space across the road from the check-in desk.

To be fair, the Manager was very pleasant and helpful and she bent over backwards to do the right thing, but this hotel just does not cut it. Cleanliness. If I am staying away from home, I do not want someone else's (whom I do not know) fingerprints on my bathroom mirror and wardrobe door. Our room had not been vacuumed and a slapdash attempt at cleaning the bathroom floor was a miserable failure.
The excuse of having 'new cleaners who are still being trained' does not cut it with us. What training do you have to give a person re using a vacuum cleaner?
The Ethos Hotel has potential - it is a shame it has not been realised. The rooms are a good size - with good natural light and it's in a quiet suburban area.
More care is required at the Ethos Hotel.

Ethos Hotel is very conveniently located, about a ten minute walk to the center of Oxford, over the Thames and past the Head of the River. The rooms were extremely clean with lovely beds, nice and very modern bathrooms. We arrived early and the staff were very accommodating, storing our luggage until the room was ready; when we returned later, the bags were in our room. We also left our bags there before leaving Oxford, and the staff looked up and printed off directions so we could avoid the clogged streets of Oxford on our way to Blenheim.Given the price, the only negative is that the room did not include breakfast.

My only complaint was that the carpet was considerably stained. While the reception and public areas are quite small, the staff is quite willing to do almost anything to insure that their guests have a wonderful stay. They bring a generous basket of continental breakfast items and each room is outfitted with a microwave, sink, fridge, and dishes. Coffee and tea is also provided. The neighborhood is quiet, but there is the famous "Head of the River Pub" just a block away and several smaller cafes and restaurants are also in close proximity, and there's a Tesco three blocks away. Convenient to Oxford University and the Thames Walk. It's a winner for a short stay in Oxford.

My husband and I stayed at the Ethos Hotel for three nights in April 2014. We were looking for a comfortable, affordable base from which to sight see and visit family in the Oxford area. We were very pleased with the Ethos. The hotel is located on a side street in a very quiet residential area just south of the the Folly Bridge that crosses the Thames. We enjoyed nice walks to the center of Oxford from the hotel. We had a lovely king room on the second floor of the main building and enjoyed the open windows and skylights very much! The room was an adequate size for two adults, bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean. We loved the location, the room and we plan to stay here on our next trip to Oxford.
