Located in a 16th century house across the street from New College, the Holywell B&B offers large, comfortable, impeccability furnished rooms. The hosts, Stuart and Carrie and their very well trained dog, Max, are welcoming and create a real home-away-from-home atmosphere--assuming your home is a lovely historic site! There are only three rooms, so you have to make your reservations early, but we were lucky enough to get the whole place for our family. The house is quiet and we slept well each of our three nights we stayed.
The location is within an easy walking distance of The Bodliean Library, the Turf Tavern, the Magdalene Bridge (if you want to try your hand at Punting), and Sheldonian Theatre. Although we did not drive, there is secure parking if you have your car.
Breakfast is a wonderful treat. Carrie prepares a full English breakfast that can't be beat, and for a special treat, she makes American blueberry pancakes on request.
Stuart leads walking tours of Oxford and has interesting insights to offer.
I would recommend this B&B for couples, singles, and families. If you have a family member attending one of the central Colleges, this would be an ideal location to stay when visiting.
