Stayed here for 2 nights over a weekend, as a base for the Peak District (beautiful area around Castleton only 30 minutes away)
Do not wish to bore folk with a long review, but I felt I had to write a few lines as I am VERY imressed with the cleanliness that Jury's apsire to and maintain. I am very familiar with Jury's at Milton Keynes too, and again it is very well-ordered and clean there too. When you stay at other hotel chains, you really see and appreciate clean and good hotels - and Jury's wins my vote for the "UK's Cleanest Hotels !"
No complaints at Sheffield - good rate for double room (£ 49) and continental breakfast (which is good) only £ 4. I liked the new way only room-owners can access the lifts as you have to swipe your card to use a life - will enhance security no doubt.
Did I have any niggles ? Well yes....but quite minor :
(a) Bar drinks seemed a bit steep...I bought a large Diet Coke - at £ 3.40 ! Could have bought a couple of Diet Coke large-bottles down the road at a supermarker if I had known !
(b) NOT pleaseant views from my window - concrete jungle and multi-story car parks everywhere you looked - but not an issue for me personally as this was only just a "base" for me. Of course, counter-argument is that hotel is very well located - 5 minutes to train station, 5 mins from main shops, for example.
(c) The side my room was on was near a nightclub, and even though I was on floor 7, I could hear the constant bass-noise. On the Saturday night, this went on to about 4.30am ! Not the hotel's fault at all of course....but just be aware. No problem in the week I imagine...I did not even really hear any noise on the Friday night past a reasonable hour.
Summary - very much liked this hotel. Emphasis is on "convenience" - NOT a place for a peaceful stay with views...but as I said, the Peaks are only a few miles away !
