“Difficult to find, but pleasant suprise when found”

Holiday Inn Sheffield

Using a sat nav to find this location will more likely than not land you in trouble. I was told I had arrived at the correct location when in fact I was at a round about 40 meters below the hotel. There are no signposts for the hotel at this round about. Eventually having found the place, I was pleasantly surprised by its archaic charm. Just as I was starting to question my sence of direction I was held up at reception by two phone calls made to the receptionist who subsequently spent 5 minutes on each call explaining how to find the hotel to the caller.

If using a postcode, type in the Hilton hotel - S47YA which is literally next to the Holiday Inn.

The room was spacious, and bathroom modern and clean. the four poster bed with curtain draws ensured a goods night sleep although the bed did slope in the middle.

The food at this location is very average and the walls paper thin. Traffic noise is little worry compared with the movement of residents in the neighbouring rooms.

myself and 3 friends had a birthday meal here and we went with some trepidstion after reading some of the reviews. I have to say that we were most surprised with the standard of the food. It was absolutley gorgeous. There was a limited menu with about 8 dishes, but what there was was very tasty and nicely presented. The young staff were very attentive and looked after us well. The atmosphere was nice although not for those that liked a lively atmosphere. Overall it was a lovely night and we would go back there again.

“Good refurbishment of a traditional hotel”

We stayed 2 nights at the Holiday Inn recently, and were pleasantly surprised at the standard of the hotel. We commented that so many hotels are faceless, with only the very contemporary or traditional ( like this one) standing out

The hotel was the former station hotel of the long departed Northern line into Sheffield and its former grandeur shows with high ceilings, chandeliers and cornices and gold leaf galore. It has grand staircases and large rooms - we loved the bar (lots of comfy leather settees) and the restaurant. The Terry Gorman pictures on the corridor walls were great too ( a local Sheffield artist with an almost Lowryesque style). The lift was small for the size of the hotel but guess there are restrictions with a building of this age and it is only 3 floors high

The Holiday Inn is set in an area of hotels at the end of a ramp with nice garden areas outside its entrance, an absolute mass of FREE secure parking (the hotel is set on the edge of the city centre so free parking is an absolute boon) - the Hilton is over the road, the Park Inn at the end of the drive, and the Travelodge and Ibis nearby

Our main issue with the hotel was the area of town it is on the edge of (the markets area) is stuck in the 1970s and is due a much needed revamp - by day it is fine but it was not the nicest walk through the fairly deserted area by night (it is only a short taxi ride into the city so this isnt a huge problem) - the hotel is on the doorstep of the Ponds Forge international swimming complex, handy for the station and tram links

The city centre is changing for the better at the minute, with the Peace Gardens and Winter Gradens area very nice and with several decent bars and restaurants

The hotel itself had decent sized rooms, yes the bathroom could have been slightly bigger in our standard room but the room itself was a decent size and the bathroom was well refurbished with a contemporary feel and a decent bath and shower

Breakfast was very good from a large buffet style choice and the staff were all very friendly and helpful ( to the extent of bringing a fried egg to the table when they weren't ready at the time i had the rest of my plate stocked with items from the hot buffet)

We would definitely not hesitate to stay there again when visiting Sheffield

“Great Hotel”

Holiday Inn Sheffield

I've stayed in many hotels around the world and I can honestly say our stay at the Holiday Inn (Royal Victoria) is within the top 20.

Return to a bygone age with hugh rooms, vaulted ceilings, breathtaking stairwells, classy decor and stunning rooms. We were in the executive rooms which were well appointed and had huge bathrooms.

I would definitely stay here again and the only real drawback I can see is you have to be in the frankly uninspiring City of Sheffield to stay here.

Stayed here for business purposes. Had an executive room booked for the night which cost £90. The room was wonderful. Huge four poster bed, massive TV, wonderful bathroom with plenty of towells. Room service was excellent and a decent size meal too. The staff were really helpful.

The hotel itself must be pre-war, probably 1930's. It has high ceilings and all the charm that you would expect from a building of this age. The only thing that, in my opinion needs modernising would be the lift.

Well worth a visit.
