I had to stay at the Novotel sheffield for a business trip for a week. From the outside it looked fine. However the room was dark, one tiny lamp in the corner of the room and one plug socket. Quite annoying as i was needing to use my laptop all the time so then had to take it out when needing the plug for something else. The service was also terrrible. There was only ever one person on the desk so everyday when my key didnt work i had to stand 30mins in a queue to explain. got tedious. then when i came to check out they tried to overcharge me for things i had never even used which they didnt believe. only when i could prove that i hadnt would they let me leave. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU CAN AT ALL HELP IT.

“Great Location and being upgraded”

This Hotel is centrally located close to the Railway Station which makes getting there easy. Although the Hotel has ample parking you would do better leaving car at home than try to navigate Sheffield's one way and confusing traffic system.

The hotel is close to all the local atrractions eg City Hall, Crusible, Lyceum Theatre and the trendy city bars and restaurants around the peace garden

When i stayed there was some building work where some rooms were being refurbed which wasnt ideal but I guess in Januray they planned it at their quietest time and they did seem to allocate rooms away from the works.

My room was of a resonable standard though tiring a little. Friends who stayed in the new rooms benifited from an upgraded bathroom with fancy shower.

Food wise you will be hard pushed to beat the extensive breakfast choice. Evening food is of the usual Hotel standard ok nothing fancy and not cheap. Lack of choices means you will want to try some of the City's excellant restaurants.

The pool at the hotel is small but deep enough to swim shame its barely 10m in length. The gym consists of 2 bikes and a cross trainer which do allow you to work up a sweat ut if you are a regular gym visiter you may want to use the gym around the corner which is free of charge to guests of the Novotel.

My boyfriend and I had tickets to our Graduation Ball at the City Hall in Sheffield, and we needed a place to stay, as we have now moved out of the area. My mum booked us a room at the Novotel as a graduation gift to the both of us. The hotel is in the city centre, and within walking distance from all main attractions in Sheffield, as the centre is not that big.
My expectations were that it would just be a run-of-the-mill basic hotel room with adequate facilities. When we arrived, the receptiion area was up a flight of stairs (but they also had a lift). The atmosphere was relaxed, yet sophisticated, and the decor modern. I was extremely impressed with the whole of the reception area. There were also pool facilities and although it wasn't the biggest, the pool appeared clean and looked after.
The bar area was trendy, clean and well served, with a good range of beverages.
We stayed in a double standard room, which was equally as impressive and modern, inkeeping with the rest of the hotel. The room was spacious, with a large, comfy bed, a large flat screen television which also enabled you to plug in an MP3 player to the speaker system. There was not much wardrobe space but there was some, and there were coat hangers provided. There was also a kettle with tea, coffee and biscuits, all complimentary. The minibar was expensive, but then they are aren't they!
The bathroom was simple yet luxurious, with a bath, seperate shower and large sink. Shampoo, shower gel and soaps were provided also. The only thing we weren't keen on was the fact that the toilet was seperate, and was over the other side of the room. This was slightly inconvenient, but caused no major problems.
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Novotel, Sheffield. I would go back, and definately recommend this hotel to others.

Stayed here for 2 nights in October 2007 for work. Room was clean, basic and had everything I needed. No real complaints but nothing particularly 'exciting' about my stay either. The staff were pleasant and I found the carpark easily enough. I have to admit, I did find it a bit unnerving that the toilet was separate from the bathroom and is located through what feels like an external door and a separate little area to your room....very strange. I didn't feel like going downstairs to eat so I ordered roomservice which was nice enough. I think you get the theme here, not a bad hotel, but not particularly impressive either.

I have stayed in Sheffield several times for business and found this hotel nicer than the Park Inn but nowhere near as nice as the Mercure St Pauls (Which is only £8 more per night and is in a completely different league).

Hope this helps

“Beware when booking twin room”

Novotel Sheffield Centre

17 Oct 2007

Clean hotel, food quite good, buffet style.
Beware when booking a twin room.
Twin room consists of one double bed and what can only be described as a camp bed, with a not very clean blanket.
