This hotel markets itself as a 4 star hotel, but realistically, it's more 3 star. The room wasn't anything special, despite the fact that we paid £20 more for a de-luxe room. Any evidence of a make-over to the room was very, very minimal. The toilet leaked constantly, creating a very wet floor which we had to mop up with towels. The room was lacklustre and bland.
The breakfast was disgusting, and we had to call the manager to complain. There was a family sitting next to us at breakfast who also voiced their complaints at the disgusting breakfast. One of these people was a chef at a hotel in Ireland, and he said that if he had presented food like that, he would have been sacked.
The food and safety laws were obviously not being adhered to, as there was rotting smoked salmon, dried up slices of cheese, which were curling up at the ends, plus disgusting looking cold meats, also curling up at the ends, all placed together, uncovered, on the buffet table.
My partner complained that his bacon was like leather, the fried egg was like rubber (probably because it had been sitting out for hours on the buffet table) the baked beans were cold, as were the mushrooms. The lady sat next to us also complained of exactly the same thing. You just couldn't eat it.
The cheek of it all is that this disgusting breakfast is charged at £12.50!!! Needless to say, we refused to pay for it. We also refused to pay the £20 upgrade on the room. The management conceded to this, and deducted the amount from our bill.
I cannot get over the rip off mentality of this hotel, and I cannot get over how they think that they think they can get away with it.
I believe this hotel chain is French, and I bet that there's no way it would be as disgusting in France as it was in Sheffield.
