“Never Again”

The Rutland Hotel

23 Aug 2007

I have just returned from a visit to Sheffield , I booked this hotel not knowing about this web site , When i arrived i was given the keys to room 50, i had to walk quite a way , down some stairs to what looked like the basement, When i walked into the room the smell was really bad , the room was damp , dull ,The room was horrible, mould around the window, wallpaper hanging off the walls and ceiling, yellow curtains, stains on the quilt and the carpet was filthy.
and not very nice at all , i went back to the reception to tell the lady on the desk i was not happy with the room. she then handed me keys to room 24 , again i had to walk a long way to get to the room , this room did not smell of damp like no 50 did , but it was very small , the shower did not work very well ,again there was wall paper peeling away from the walls , there was a very large damp patch on the ceiling of this room . I was not very happy with my stay at the hotel . and i am very dissapointed with paying £89.99 .Overall I would say this is probably the worse hotel i have ever stayed in

I too wished I had read the reviews of this hotel before staying here, fortunately I was only staying the one night.
The reception staff were friendly and courteous, though on reflection i think they were just being apologetic as they knew what the rooms are like (appaling).
Breakfast is a joke, poor service and chaotic. I only wanted poached eggs on toast and they couldn't even get that right. In the end I gave up on the idea of actually being served my meal and went out to catch breakfast elsewhere. Plenty of good hotels in Sheffield so give the Rutland a miss.

I stopped here for my graduation with my parents, as did a friend of mine and his parents. They got a gorgeous room with lovely decor and furniture. I got one of the 'standard' rooms which wouldn't be out of
place in a 1960s hostel.

The decor is drab, the floorboards creak like mad, the shower probably hasn't been replaced in over a decade, and the bedding is itchy and bland.

The hotel has its rooms crammed in, to get maximum profit, and doesn't look after them properly. However, the reception/
breakfast/bar areas are fine and the breakfast is quite good, and the staff reasonably polite and friendly.

The location is pretty good: 10 minutes to the uni, 15-20 minutes to the town centre.

Overall, get one of the nicer rooms, or expect to be VERY ripped off!

We stayed here for one night before moving into our temporary home. I wish I checked this site before giving them our credit card number.
The place is actually falling down! Torn wallpaper, chipped bathroom tiles, mildew, tub that does not drain, stained carpet that smells....just about everything you can think of at an awful hotel, and some extra. There was a SPIDER WEB on the ceiling!!! I could not believe my eyes.
What's more incredible is that the Sheffield tourist office recommended this hotel as 'a good, expensive hotel.' They should take their job more seriously and at least have a look at hotels they recommend to tourists.

Had to stay here for 1 night and wouldnt recommend. The room was horrible, mould around the window, paint hanging off the ceiling, yellow curtains, stains on the quilt and the carpet was filthy.
The room cost for the night was £109 and the average price for a meal being £15 plus which is ridiculous.
I would never go back here
