I made the judgement on where to stay from (a) the proximity to the city centre and (b) the website, where it states it is “Sheffield’s premier, independently owned, boutique hotel” and “the ultimate in contemporary luxury”. They also state that each bedroom includes such features as remote control digital television, WIFI Internet access, direct dial telephones with PC modem points, hairdryer and trouser press.
At the time of booking I was not informed that the hotel would be in a state of renovation, that the bedrooms would smell of paint, and that tv & telephones would not be available – otherwise I would have either forewarned my guests or indeed booked elsewhere. None of this was mentioned on your website, nor when I reserved or arrived.
For info, the same spare rib bones, and other litter, that I encountered on the pavement outside the hotel on my arrival at 3.30pm on Thursday were still there on Friday at 9am when I left.
The staff were good & helpful, both at reception and during the evening meal. However, the quality of the evening meal was very poor indeed. The main course was a real throwback to what British cooking used to be like; flavourless over-cooked lamb, flavourless under-cooked vegetables, a glut of both roast & new potatoes, no mint sauce. The dessert was described as Chocolate Rum Truffle, but appeared to be an unfrozen, tasteless chocolate cake with a white rum truffle ball on top.
I won't be staying there again
