I stayed in the hotel one week when attending a conference in Sheffield. I had informed the owners about the dates when I arrive and when I leave by e-mail. As I was leaving, it turned out that the landlady had maken a mistake and expected me to leave only on the next day. Even though it was her mistake and even though I had copies of my e-mails, she charged me for the extra night. Besides, she was being extremely unpolite and rude. As I was busy catching my flight and being a foreigner and not knowing whom to contact, I had other choice than to pay.
As to the accommodation, the house was pretty and the rooms nicely decorated. However, there were some problems too: the floors were squeezing, there was an odour of an old house in the building and the shower the strangest I've ever seen (a white electrically operated box on the wall).
What was odd, was the behaviour of the couple who owned the house. Even though you were a paying customer, they treated you like you had been an intruder in their house. You had to order the day before what you wanted to have for breakfast and report the exact time when you going to have. Still, when you arrived in the breakfast room, they started to make it from a scratch so that you had to wait some 20 minutes before you got you had ordered. The coffee was weak and the background music awful. They only had two cd-discs and even though I like James Taylor, I don't want to hear "You've got a friend" on seven consequtive mornings.
I much regretted my choice even when staying in the hotel and even more so after the finald episode and the extra night they charged. I would not go there again, especially as there are also other hotels nearby.
