fantastic location - couple of minutes drive to Eccleshall Road and the hustle and bustle of the shops, but felt like you were staying in the middle of the countryside! Stayed in a junior suite which had a balcony overlookin the lake - which was just wonderful. You can tell that the hotel was once the cream of the crop but it appears to be going down hill slightly - little things - there were mucky towels in the bottom of the wardrobe, no tea coffee milk etc, when we called up for some they said they would bring some to us straight away, an hour later they hadnt arrived so we ended up getting them ourselves from the stores! breakfast was delightful - really really good and you could view the lake from the restaurant. Leisure facilities were basic but swimming pool was really nice (but unmanned)however the reception at the health club was a farce! - the attendee was more concerned about gossiping about hotel guests rather than assisting anyone! All in all the beautiful views made the stay worthwhile but luxury was slowly deteriorating at the hotel.

“quite nice”

Kenwood Hall Hotel

3 May 2008

On arrival at this hotel, it's an immediate wow after travelling through Sheffield town. It's in a leafy suburb and you would be forgiven for thinking you had arrived in the Country.

There are sufficient car parking spaces within the grounds of the hotel.

The reception area is pleasant and the staff equally so. Check in was swift and efficient and very polite.

The rooms however, are a bit of a let down. Don't get me wrong my room was clean but it was not as expected considering the wow factor on arrival at the hotel. I was staying in a twin room and did not see any other rooms so I cannot comment on those. The room itself is spacious and well equipped. One point to note is that my room was overlooked and had no form of blind or net curtaining which meant I had to close the curtains for privacy which blocked the view of the beautiful grounds. the beds are comfortable and I had a good night's sleep.

I ordered room service, which was acceptable. Breakfast is a buffet which is of varied choice which was enjoyable and makes for a good start to the day.

Overall, a good stay and the staff were very polite and friendly. I would stay here again.

“Top Notch!”

Kenwood Hall Hotel

30 Apr 2008

My boyfriends parents booked us into this hotel for his birthday. At first (admittedly) I didnt really fancy the idea of a weekend in Sheffield, more of a beach babe you see. However we arrived Friday evening to find the 'more than generous' folks had booked us into the club suite. The room really was first class. Huge plasma screen, huge bed, sitting area overlooking the waterfront, nice bathroom complete with a very powerful shower... We dined that evening at the hotel restaurant which was really nice.. I would suggest your get there as early as possible as when we arrived (9pm) only 3 out of 7 starters were left. Food was nice though, an easy 7/10. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic. For £6 each we opted for breakfast in bed. For £12.50 each you could order anything you wanted... The following evening we dined at Fischers at Baslow Hall, very very nice and very very very posh, felt slightly out of my depth to be honest. Another review for that will follow!

So yes... If you intend on staying in Sheffield then the Marriot would be an excellent choice.

“Lovely hotel in unexpected location”

Marriott Sheffield. Elsewhere I have mentioned that Marriott can be overpriced for what it is, 5 star bills for 4 star services but not with the Marriott Hotel in Sheffield. Its by no means in the city centre but instead rests peacefully beside a lake in the suburbs. Based on an old suburban house it is really lovely, with immaculate rooms, spotlessly clean throughout. the whole hotel is very roomy and well looked after. This Hotel deserves 5 stars yet only charges 4 star prices. Not to be missed, I would'nt dream of staying anywhere else in Sheffield and definitely look forward to my next stay!

“Going down the pan”

This hotel seems to have gone down the pan since it was taken over by Principal Hayley from the excellent Marriott group. The Leisure Centre is particularly bad. Maintenance and management are very poor. The pool, sauna, steam room and showers are constantly out of order. There seem to be lots of penny pinching economies e.g. no newspapers, no piano player, understaffing. Not what you'd expect from an hotel of this class.
