“great service made up for niggles”

Had a weekend break in Bath and selected Dukes because of past Tripadvisor reviews and great location. Could not fault the friendly, efficient service throughout our stay. Everyone went out of their way to help with any query or request we had. Could use the internet in reception for free, which was also handy for showing us directions etc.

Our only niggles were with our room, which had begun to look a bit tired and jaded and in need of some TLC, e.g. some of the lights didn't work, fabrics are looking a bit tired, the hem on one of the net curtains was hanging down, the loo handle fell off, and the room was cold when we arrived as the heating is turned off during the day.

Didn't eat in the restaurant except for breakfast, but that was wonderful, beautifully cooked and presented full English with good quality ingredients. The smoked haddock and poached egg was also scrummy!

“Great Place to Stay in the Heart of Bath”

We had a very enjoyable Saturday night stay at the Dukes Hotel. From the moment we arrived, it was clear we were in a friendly and well-run establishment. We'd parked our car in a 'residents' space outside the hotel and the receptionist insisted that she arranged my car parking pass before we completed the check-in formalities. The hotel was immaculately clean, the double room very comfortable and breakfast in the Cavendish restarant downstairs was excellent. This hotel is advertised as requiring a 2-night minimum stay at weekends but we were able to find a booking webiste that does not enforce this rule! Highly recommended!

“Beautiful building, disappointing room”

Have just spent two nights at the Dukes Hotel which is very impressively located on Great Pulteney Street, is a beautiful building and we found the staff friendly. However, the two double rooms we had on the top floor were frankly disappointing - Richmond and Bedford. They were very small indeed, especially Richmond, and had no view. Richmond should, in my opinion, be sold as a single room and it certainly needs a new bathroom. The tatty old blanket and slightly grubby cushions which adorned the bed did not help the ambience! I would say go to this hotel but check carefully on the room you will be getting.

“Delightful.............looking forward to returning.......”

We have just come back from our wedding in Bath, and a lot of our wedding party, 13 rooms, stayed at the hotel.

We had a really enjoyable time at the Hotel, as did all of the guests who stayed, and I know many have already passed on thanks and positive feedback already.

The fantastic location has already been mentioned, so I will comment on other aspects of our stay, and the main reasons we will be booking again when next in Bath, for a forthcoming concert and Christmas shopping, as well as anniversary next year, no doubt.

THE SERVICE & FRIENDLINESS........amongst the best I have experienced anywhere in the World.......nothing was too much trouble, and everything was done with a smile.
I had a shirt unpacked and ironed, and waiting for me when I got to the room.........an no 'laundry charge', but done as a favour.....thanks Mike!
The reception staff were always so friendly and helpful, from offering to arrange for my luggage to be collected from a different location, to delivering items to the room and holding them for us on request, to constant offers of taking our luggage up to our room, some we accepted.
Special mention to the ever-pleasant and helpful reception manager, Mike Jackson, who runs the front desk with military efficiency, and a 'Peter Bowles' charm.......he helped make the stay a memorable one.

THE BREAKFASTS..........wonderful, cooked to order, and very tasty and beautifully cooked.

HOME FROM HOME.........best of all, the hotel has a lovely feel to it. It was the perfect base, and we always looked forward to escaping from our busy 3 day schedule and getting back to our beautiful room to relax with a cuppa! It proved to be a familiar haven of tranquility.

And yes, you will always find something cheaper, but we found this to be very good value for money, and the quality of the experience was worth every penny. And the good word has already got around.........our experience has already secured 'new to the Dukes' bookings for December on the strength of our recommendation.
We look forward to returning very soon - thank you all at The Dukes for adding to the happy memories of this past weekend.

We have just returned from a trip to England where one of our nights was spent in Dukes Hotel. We had to book a suite as these were the only rooms that could accomodate 3 people, our 6 year old son was with us. Our suite was on the third floor and as there is no lift and there was no one who could help us with our bags, my husband, who is just recovering from a back injury, had to lug our heavy suitcase up and down 6 flights of stairs. it was explained to us that the hotel is a Grade 1 listed building and therefore a lift can not be installed. This is understandable but for the prices they are charging there should definitely be a porter available.
The hotel is central and is in a beautiful old building which has obviously been recently refurbished, very tastefully I may add, with beautiful furnishings. However there is no air-conditioning in the rooms and our room being in the roof space was unbearably warm. A small plug-in unit had been provided but was far too noisy to leave on, even before it burned out!
We found the girl at reception far from welcoming or friendly.
Bath is a beautiful city which we will definitely revisit but from a different hotel.

I have noted the comments noting to your most recent stay at Dukes - Thank you!

May I draw to your attention the following:
- Your reservation was made using our online reservation system, which allowed you to stipulate the room type that best suited your needs.
- The hotel did have similar rooms available during the course of your stay. A room move to a lower floor would have been possible if you had enquired.
- As a common courtesy, all reservations for third floor rooms mention the exact location on confirmation letters.
- All guests, irrespective of where their room is located, are offered assistance with luggage, albeit on arrival or departure. I understand that this assistance was declined by you on both instances.
- All rooms are equipped with electric fans - a supplimentary or more efficient one would have been provided on request.

This forum bears witness to this hotels continual commitment to succeed in the "art of service" through the shared experience of past and repeat guests.

All staff are professional, caring and courteous; I am sorry that your family did not meet your expectations.

I do hope to welcome you back to Dukes.
