My wife and I treated ourselves to a luxury weekend and there were three outstanding things about the stay, the spa area which was excellent and well managed, the staff who were in the main helpful and friendly and the setting and building. However given the price it compares badly with hotels of a similar type in which we have stayed previously. We had paid for an executive king room which was a reasonable size although the bathroom was a bit cramped, the loo was so close to the bathroom door it felt odd. The room was hot and i located the standard hotel ac unit with a thermostat and fan control. no matter how low this was set the room got hotter and the fan would come on for seconds then cut out. A staff member tried to fix it and said he would report it. Some minutes later we got a call - there was no air conditioning and this was a heating control only?! On and it just gets hot! The mini bar was poor and over priced £2 for a mixer size soft drink, why is it that US hotels can offer much better value on mini bars? The breakfast was a mixed affair. On the first day we were offered toast once and an order for cooked breakfast taken but staff were thin on the ground. The cooked breakfast was of good quality but the continental breakfast in terms of presentation, variety and volume was extremely poor. The following day was worse with the hot drink order not arriving for 30 odd minutes and requiring a reminder, the couple next to us did not get their drinks until they had finished eating. The hot food order was never taken despite the menus standing on the table as a signal so we did not bother. The ambiance and style is wonderful but you must deliver on the basics plus the touches in the premium market. So liked the people loved the Spa but this is a 5 star establishment by dint of facilities rather than on what it delivers
