“A Warm Welcome!”

We stayed at Dorian house for two nights at the beginning of Easter. We booked late having had to change our plans for personal reasons, and were told on booking, rather apologetically, that the room available was the smallest in the hotel. We accepted this, because the trip to Bath was more important.

We had a very warm welcome from Sylvia, who showed us to our room, which was much larger than we were expecting, not a disappointment, and extremely comfortable...egyptian cotton sheets on the bed, waffle robes, tea & coffee, and chocolates on the bed at night.

Alcoholic drinks are also available if you fancy an aperetif or a nightcap

The en suite was shower only, which was a bit of a squeeze, but the hot water was plentiful.

The room overlooked a very pretty garden, and you could hear the road, but it wasn't too bad. Parking was available free of charge.

Breakfast was just superb, and the routine is obviously a well oiled machine..we barely had to ask for anything- top ups of coffee/tea and toast were offered before we even thought we might need them, and plates were cleared with efficiency- the quality of the breakfast was excellent..I don't eat a full breakfast very often, but enjoyed one on both days here. My husband thought the eggs benedict were the best he had tasted in a long time...

Breakfast was accompanied by the cello music of Tim Hugh (regrettably only on CD!) who owns the property.

The walk into town takes 10 mins as previously mentioned..or its a fiver in a taxi. Taxis in town don't tend to stop if you try and flag them down, so Sylvia gave us the number of a good taxi form which we used a couple of times (to get UP the hill!)

We were lucky to have sunny weather and so a trip to the Thermae Spa was very worthwhile..the rooftop baths are very enjoyable (if not a little chilly in March when you get out).

We ate at La Flamma and The Circus Restaurants, both excellent.

On the whole, our trip to Bath was lovely. Sylvia and Peter (the manager) could not have done more to make our stay more comfortable, and were the perfect hosts.
We would definitely go back.

“dorian 'on the hill' house”

Dorian House

We arrivied on friday for a long weekend, it took 3 hours from southend on sea. We were welcomed by Peter the duty manager. We had booked the Tallis room which is at the top of the house. The room is lovely, views of Bath, huge bed, lovely toiletries, heated towel rails and white waffle dressing robes (which my husband found very nice to wear in the evening).D orian house has a very calming feel. The house is beautiful. Breakfasts are lovely ,my husband said the poached eggs on toast were the best he had had. Also they do have parking which is great as its very difficult to park in Bath. To walk in will take about 10 mins down hill. Opposite B.H.S there is a lady who is selling lovely pictures of Bath. Sally lunn's tea shop I would say DONT BOTHER! the service is dreadful and a training waitress was rude! and there are far better places to go such as The Tea Rooms at the Jane Austen Museum which do a lovely cream tea for £7.00. Also The Jane Austen Walking Tour is a must Richard Pickwick are guide told us lots of interesting facts about Jane, the tour lasts about 1 1/2 hours taking in lots of the sites of Bath ie, the crescent, the circus, the pump rooms etc.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Dorian House. Peter as ever was charming and extremely attentive. Our room was delightful and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was delicious. We are looking forward to staying again very soon.

The hotel was lovely - we had a four poster room with an en-suite which was fantastic. Lovely white company shower gels and shampoos in the bathroom! The staff were friendly and the manager, Peter, very approachable and helpful. The inclusive breakfast was amazing - cereals, fruits etc etc and a choice of cooked breakfasts as well. Would definately recommend this guest house.
